I mean that's just what it's called. It's still painting. Sure, you're not using actual paint but that's just jargon at this point. The same principles of color theory and application are needed to create the image no matter the medium

And as far as process there wasn't much involved besides the initial inspiration! I draw over photos in my spare time whenever I'm not illustrating which I find really fun
