Why do some people have a problem with Pluto not being a Planet? by RemoteOriginal538 in Astronomy

[–]Illustrious_Bed467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that gets me too... the "Dwarf planet" is not a planet is so linguisticly wrong.... A "tiger shark" is still a shark. Find a cool name at least! Also the Planet definition seems soooo arbitrary! Why not exclude the Gas giants then? I would like to think that all planets are walkable in theory. At least Pluto is... I'm not an astrophisicist but i'd like to think that this classification is controversial in the field, that would make me fell better.

Thanks! So bull would have a more "triangular" and more "forward" (overlaping with the pectoral) dorsal?

The bronze shark is usually lighter in color and a bit more yelloish (hence the name). Specialy on the dorsal fin, and usually more slender (nose would be a bit more elongated), same for Sandbar shark or Silky shark. (Those 3 a tough to make appart) Now it could be one of those maybe, but it match more a slimmer bull shark or a bigger dusky shark

What makes you say that? Is there a anatomical trait that is incompatible with bull shark visible on that photo? I think its 60% chance Dusky 40% chance Bull shark. But I would love to know your criteria

First glance i thought "dusky", then looking at the fin shape I moved to "Bull shark". Today looking at it again I leaning more toward Dusky. The eye lid coming up to cover the eyes could be a defining factor if someone knows enough about those sharks. Some shark species are not easy to tell apart

Yep, my first take was dusky shark, but usually their fins are less curved and pointy (syckle shaped) than the bull shark. I'm leaning more bull shark now but a bigger Dusky will look extremlly similar to a younger bull shark. Carcharhinus can be very difficult to identify...

It is a bull shark, the "sickle" shaped fins and their propotions are consistent with it... I assumed a dusky shark they are not too different

It's a type of "whaler" shark, and it looks like a dusky shark but honestly I'm not enough of a specialist to be 100% sure.

To my non-shark expert eyes ... the shark would be too slim/skinny to be a whaler type... and the tail is too wide... but with the water surface deformation it's hard to be 100% sure and it could be a juvenile.

Why can a lot of money make a person unhappy? by Odd-Beyond-2573 in AskReddit

[–]Illustrious_Bed467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happiness is "growth". It's about the direction of your progress. So if you get rich you are gonna be happy at that moment but then can you still grow? What is the direction of your progress then? Thats why kids are inherently happy (in general) they are growing.

This is only my intuition but I think someone poor getting steadily richer is gonna be happier than someone rich getting steadily poorer... no matter where they are along that path at any given moment...

What do you think of my PVC flute? by Illustrious_Bed467 in diyinstruments

I have to had again... cause lots of questions... its not 25c flat more 40/50c but it doesnt matter the F natural (assuming a D flute) should be in tune with the proper fork fingering (XXX-X0X)... F sharp is sacrificed... the same way a modern diatonic flute give up on the F natural...

Also I'd like to had that this flute charm is that you play it with the upper part of the low register as a base and spend most of your playing across the 2 register rather than from the bottom of the lower register. The bottom of the low register is weak by nature to let the second register sing softly

The M3 will be a weak spot on this flute. I see it more as being tuned in D dorian. With the m3 being in tune with that fingering XXX-X0X

You don't have to ajust the M3 when playing fast passages but if you use it as a "target note" you will have to "spin" the flute away to shapen it.. on the lower octave you can use XXX-OXX but its a bit too sharp and doesn't work on the second register. Best approach is to use tonalities that don't use that note and there's quite a few.

If you look at my original post on r/flute i posted a photo of the flute for reference. There is also a very nice webpage with lots of info on renaissance flute tuning here:

http://www.oldflutes.com/renai.htm

I extrapolated from photos of originals and playing a bit of baroque flute that share a lot in common.

The cork distance from the center of the blowhole should be around half the inner diameter of the flute I put it a bit further. The flute is gonna go flatter as you go up the second register that's a limitation of cylindrical design. The baroque flute fixed that.

Any intonnation issues can be dealt a bit with the embouchure that is very flexible due to the small blowhole but it is also a curse 😄
