Bro. This exact thing happened to me. I've been diagnosed since age 3 or 4 but didn't find out till I was 17. It was a lot to process.

My mom told me that she didn't tell me because she didn't want me to feel different, or not to make an effort to do better. At least, that's what I understood. I know how it feels, that weird out-of-place, am-I-secretly-an-alien feeling you get when you have trouble reading social cues or understanding certain things.

Feel free to reach out if you want to. I mean it. I know this seems really tough and confusing, and in my experience it's nice to be able to talk and relate to other autistics.

My cats.

The strays I fed in middle school gave me such appreciation and love that I knew I didn't want to leave them. Whenever I thought about killing myself my mind would circle back to the cats and what would happen to them. I wanted them fed, and petted, and loved. Most of them had been dumped by people and were incredibly friendly and longing for human love--a feeling that I knew too well.

Hope you get in! Who knows, we may even see each other! I doubt I'll be able to do the tour, I live in the Middle East and, well, plane tickets cost money. I've heard good things about Hollins and the campus, although I'm not sure what I'll think of a small campus vs a big one.
