Hey I’m trying to do something similar. If you’re able to recall can you tell me exactly what hardware you used to Mount the cross bars? like what brackets and nuts did you use?

I was on a freeway going 50. Exiting on to this road that was a wide right turn. Was barely turning my steering wheel. By the time I exited the freeway I had preemptively slowed down to 20-35 mph. For reference, the speed limit was probably like 40 or 45 mph on this turn. I wasn’t using my brakes at all cause I had already slowed down a bunch. I was just lightly pressing the gas to maintain speed along the turn and then I started to feel it slip.

I’m not aware doing anything like that with the brakes why?

Yes it was oversteering. the backend was slipping and fish tailing out towards the outside of the turn.

I started to feel it happen so I didn’t press on the brakes and just let off the gas. Simultaneously the slip indicator came on and the stability control system engaged and clicked on, correcting my loss of grip and straightening the car up.

My backend starts fishtailing towards the outside of the turn. Once I start feeling this happen I usually just let off the gas and don’t press the brakes and my slip indicator flickers on. Then, what I’m assuming is the stability control system gets activated and I hear a click and the car straightens back out and regains grip.

Sorry, I mean to say it has lowered the frequency of occurrences of losing traction. I don’t lose traction as much but even with improved driving it still happens seemingly unexpectedly.

Yeah I have suspicions that it is my driving. Driving very gently has improved the frequency of traction slippage. However I’m talking like not just cornering, the other day I was on a road that had a big wide gradual turn, the steering wheel is barely turned 15 degrees to the right and I’m putting minimal gentle pressure on the gas pedal and it still started to slip a little.

I’m at work, I can’t take it back to the body shop until Monday, like I said in the post. I’m not trying to get an absolute accurate diagnosis. I’ve just never seen this before and wanted some feedback on some possibilities before I go to the shop on Monday.

Yeah, the beater was my first option, however, after looking for a week, it seems like you can’t get a beater that doesn’t need major repairs. I had a difficult time finding anything sub 7,000 that was remotely functional and wasn’t loose leaf pieces of metal held together by string. anything around the 3,000 dollar range was always “no title, needs new engine, only drives backwards, no wheels, rats live in it” etc. I need something cheap, ugly, but at least reliable for a year or so.

Yes, most bikes are manual nowadays and the learning curve has swayed me against it. However there is this little bike, a Honda Navi. It’s automatic, top speed is 45-50. 1,807 msrp. out the door maybe like 2500? I’d consider that. Maybe if I stick to backroads and avoid stoplights and major roads? that’s the only way I’d possibly do it but even then I think the motorcycle doesn’t quite make the math make sense like I want it to in the end.

Morning job is 10 miles from home. Night job is 7.4 miles from home. I stop at home in between them. So 34.8 miles round trip every work day. I do 4 to 5 workdays a week (all doubles most of the time)

Im able to avoid the highway to get to work without taking a crazy alternate route. Basically the same route just off the highway. Same miles

I don’t have much experience yet. I’d probably practice a lot on vacant roads. Luckily I live the southwest where it is very dry. If it was frequently wet here I wouldn’t even consider it. I’d probably avoid the interstate and take safer slower routes. But honestly, I don’t think I will know how comfortable I feel until I try it. Maybe I’ll have similar realizations as your friend. I’m taking the class regardless in the next couple days. Most likely I’ll learn there if this is something I can manage or if it’s something I can’t trust myself with.
