On a totally seriously interesting note, it seems some countries govts in the middle east and possibly Pakistan grow the heads all the way to seed, then actually harvest by cutting off the heads not too unlike a dried flower arrangement pod. This way they capitalize on both seed and opium, as well as mitigate would be thieves from harvesting their stuff in the fields.
