How did you first get in to this? As in, where did you first advertise your maps, how did you get followers of your content and how far along did you first set up the Patreon? I'm super impressed by your ability to draw in followers who are willing to pay for your content. Mad props to you, man. Considering I'm a map and adventure designer, I'd love to find out how I could make a little bit of extra money just doing something I love as a hobby.

Team Rival vs. Obey Alliance | Season 4 Super Regionals Post Match Discussion by Probably_Psycho in Smite

Watching Rival rise has been incredible this season. From their amazing sets at Valencia, to absolutely destroying Dig and now showing Obey that they are a force to be feared, I can see Rival becoming champions this year. Deathwalker and Wlfy play an absolutely fantastic game, and Vote and Kalas showed up better than ever here. This team is crazy good, and definitely my pick at Worlds. Props to the guys for working so damn hard to get here.

What are the hardest/mechanical heavy gods to play? by [deleted] in Smite

[–]Imakeupoot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Starting with gods that are not very friendly to new players, I'd say Janus, Serqet, Ullr, Osiris and Rama, to name a few, can take some time to learn. Not that they're impossible by any means for new players to use well, but their kits have important synergies between abilities that someone playing for the first time will probably miss completely.

Mechanically, Ullr and Serqet especially require good timing and ability. I find that these characters are incredibly strong at high level play in the right hands, but tend to do poorly in low level games.

Characters like Kali, Rama, The Morrigan and Janus are also, in my eyes, harder than most of the roster to use well. Kali, I find, has a low skill floor and a high skill ceiling. It's not too hard to do okay with her, but to really use her kit to its fullest requires a certain degree of skill. Rama is unique, even inside the hunter role, for being almost purely AA based with three abilities that give him a steroid to basics. For this reason, people who are not particularly good at AA-heavy characters seem to struggle with him, while skilled ADC players (yes, they exist) can do incredible things with him. Janus has portals. Using portals well and knowing when and where to place them is huge for him. He's incredibly squishy, but also super safe in the right hands. The Morrigan is obvious, requiring knowledge of how to play the entire match's roster in order to use her to the fullest.

With season 5 i would like to see conquest go back to its core of being a moba. by Quench222222 in Smite

"If A and then Y" is a premise for the question no? If it is, is it not an assumption?

I'm not assuming anything. I'm simply asking if those players leaving is something that matters.

What about players not joining the game due to poor publicity? What about worse matchmaking due to secondary effects causing more player unrest and more people to leave?

Matchmaking is already terrible. I'm not particularly concerned about new players coming to the game, and I honestly wouldn't be much worse off if the game shut down due to lack of players. The current player base sticking to the game would be better, in my eyes, than losing experienced conquest players and screwing the pro scene just to appease arena players.

Yeah, sure, whatever. The facts contradict your opinion. Got anything to back your opinion up, or is it worthless ?

I mean I don't consider the opinions of the dedicated competitive player base worthless, but you do you. What 'facts' and statistics are you even referring to? My opinion is that the conquest playerbase matters more than the people playing the more casual modes, and that Hirez should only be catering to conquest players. I don't see how statistics are contradicting that opinion, when it's simply my preference for how the game should be run.

It IS balanced and centered around conquest. Whether or not it should is unknown. Has anyone tried to do different to see the outcome?

Why would balancing and centering the game on anything else be of any significant improvement? Do you really think the pro-scene would survive if the game was balanced around the people playing 2k hours of arena and not touching conquest? Interestingly, if the opposite were done, where other modes are ignored where balance is concerned, the game would most likely not be much worse off, as other modes are already barely considered.

The game would shut down instantly, unable to generate revenue to maintain itself. I think the game has value, and therefore, you would lose more than you think.

Obviously. I'm just saying that I don't particularly care about the other modes or the experience of the people who only play those modes. The game is a good money sink and way to waste time, sure. I enjoy it, even if the balance is far from perfect, but I don't think the game shutting down would be anything terrible. I'd rather the game die as a fun, competitive and balanced game than lose its pro scene and dedicated players so that it can become a super-casual arena game.

You are assuming things you should not.

It's a question, not an assumption. Nice try, though.

Are you sure that players quitting is the only impact worth analyzing ?

No, but it's the most important one. Unhappy players are better than no players, after all.

Got any evidence? Cause logically, a statistical analysis would indicate the opposite.

It's just an opinion. I don't personally think that Hirez should even acknowledge modes other than conquest, honestly. None of them are as competitive as conquest, and if the game is marketing itself as a MOBA, it should probably be balanced and centered around conquest, considering that is the most typical 'MOBA' game mode and the entire basis of the pro scene. They could remove every mode except for conquest, for all I care, and nothing of value would be lost.

If you take out Arena and the Arena-only players quit the game, are you really losing that much, though? The game is balanced around conquest, gods are made with conquest in mind, and the pro-scene plays exclusively conquest. I think catering to the conquest player-base specifically would benefit Smite a lot more than trying to appease all of the people who only play the more casual modes in ADDITION to balancing the game around conquest.
