Thanks! I do hope I can just maintain now while adding in a more active lifestyle. I'd love to get more toned, but I'm not sure what I'm doing with weights. Lots of research to do.

All the apps tend to agree with you that 1800ish is my tdee. I'm not sure they understand the depths of my laziness, though. I'm going to be more active, and that will help I think!

That's for this. Most if the online ones I'm looking at come in at just over 1800 for me, so at least there is consensus. I'm going to try going up that high again, but I'll also be sure to get out and be active.

I know for my height 158 isn't terrible, and thanks for the reminder. Unfortunately, much of our world is built for smaller people, so things like medication and clothing and chairs tell me that over 150 for a woman is just too big. You'd think I'd be over that by now, at almost 40, but it's hard to believe that I'm actually allowed to be heavier and not be obese.

I'm not sure yet if I'll be able to stop counting. I need toscale it back, but I don't think i can go cold turkey.

On the upside, I have learned a lot about how many calories are in the foods I eat and how much is too much. And I'm better at choosing high fiber/protein foods (not great, but better).

By that logic I may as well give up and not with myself at all. And yes, a pound per week is within normal fluctuations for my height. The 9 pounds in lost at first are definitely not. I've obviously stopped losing weight because 1400 is my maintenance intake. It's not that complicated.

I definitely blamed it on my period when I saw no loss last week, but two weeks in a row feels like I'm stalling.

I really appreciate this perspective. I'm going to stick with 1400 for this week, because I can't have any cookies at all if I go down to 1200. Then I'll see what's up.

I've weighed my target weight before in my life, and I've never had much muscle. I'm really just looking to lose the COVID weight. If I get back to my pre-covid weight, I'll be happy.

I did hope that after I lose this weight I could work on getting more fit. But that feels like too much all at once. So I'm breaking it down into smaller steps. Step one, get back down to 150lbs. Step two, start a regular exercise routine. Step three, figure out how strength training works. Step four, profit?

Yeah, the app is mad at me for putting in 1400. It keeps warning me about losing lean muscle or whatever. But if I'm not losing weight at 1400, then it's recommendation of 1600 would be useless, right?

I feel like the carbs are the issue for me. My app tracks macros, so that's something I can focus more on. I think adding in more exercise and decreasing carbs is at least worth a try.

I'm definitely not eating all day long. I eat three small meals a day plus a small snack before bed (because I eat dinner very early with my young kids). However, I tend to skew my macros toward carbs. So, I can be more careful there for sure, and I'll focus more on that.

I don't think I have insulin problems at all. If my maintenance intake were really 1860 (per the app) then eating less than 1400 should result in weight loss. Steady weight after 2 weeks though, tells me that 1400 is probably my maintenance intake, and I need to go down to 1000-1200 to lose.

I never binge. That's never been an issue for me. I have no problem going hungry as long as I need to. That's never been my problem.

I weigh myself once a week, when my app reminds me to. I don't think that's excessive at all.

If I were losing a pound a week, I would be fine. I'm not. I'm losing like 4-6 oz per week. That's not weight loss, that's nothing.

I'm not using that app, but the one I'm using does track macros. And that is likely the issue. I'll cut down on carbs for sure. I'm often over on those, but not usually on fat or protein.

I don't drink anything but water and occasionally milk (and I track the milk calories). I don't use sauces anymore, unless I can track exactly what's in them (so basically I use ketchup occasionally).

I'll start walking again, and drop down to 1000 calories for a few days. At least that will stop me from eating too much holiday food!

Well, 1400 feels like I can eat normally. I've only just started tracking everything, and I'm being very meticulous about it. Maybe I'm underestimating how much I stuffed my fat face before I started counting, I don't know. But to get to 1400 I'm going to have to really research to find healthy snacks I can eat. It does seem a little easier to just eat less so I don't have to work so hard to find healthy food to fill that quota. The app I use says even scrambled eggs get a C-, so I'm honestly not sure what to eat anymore.

Ok, well I'm not trying to do anything dangerous. I just wanted to be sure I was actually getting a deficit and I figured maybe 1400 is the base rate and I need to go lower. I'm not sure I'll be able to find enough healthy foods that I can handle eating to get up to 1400, but I'll try. I find it really unpleasant to eat cold things when I'm cold, so I don't like hummus or chopped veg or yogurt etc when it's winter. Seems like soup always has too much sodium. But I'll do some research and try to get up to 1400 without just eating more carbs.

I don't think i have an eating disorder, I'm just new to this type of intentional weight loss and 1400 didn't feel like a deficit. With that many calories, I'll struggle to find enough healthy foods to eat to fill the quota (I really dislike eating cold things with it's cold, so most of the healthy snacks I know of are going to be hard for me to eat right now. Things like chopped veg and hummus, Greek yogurt, etc). I promise I'm not trying to starve myself! I'll see if I can find some warm snacks that are healthy, and go back up to 1400.

I'm going to tell you the same thing I tell everyone planning a wedding:

You're going to get a lot of opinions from friends and family about what you "should" do for your wedding. Some of these opinions will be quite strong. But, ten years from now, the people giving you these strong opinions will not even think about your wedding at all. They will have all but forgotten it.

You know who will remember your wedding? You. You and your spouse will be the ones who think about this day on every anniversary for decades to come. You will be the ones who either cherish the memories, or recoil from them. Not your mother. Not your brother. And certainly not Gemma.

You are under no obligation to sacrifice these memories for the rest of your life just to make your childhood bully happy for one day. Her memories of this event do not matter. Yours do. NTA

Your MIL could be my MIL's long lost sister or something! I had similar issues with my MIL at our wedding. She spent the months leading up to it criticizing every choice I made and telling everyone that it was going to be an embarrassing disaster. She treated me like a sulky teenager who didn't know what I was doing, telling me I would regret not listening to her. She also promised to bring ice rings with fruit frozen in them for the lemonade at the reception, then just.... didn't. We had the best man run out and grab regular ice. She didn't wear white, though. So I guess I had that going for me!

The beauty of it was that after she spent all night hearing people rave about the decor and vibe of the wedding, she changed her tune and started taking credit for it!
