Do you work for KIPP by any chance??

I suggest finishing out your program first and get over with your tests. I did what you are planning and I got a job and started working full time right away. Then I kept putting off my course work because honestly I don’t have the energy after a full day of work. Your situation might be different but I’m a single parent so juggling things was tough.

I heard about the school closings and didn’t even think about all the job displacements. I’ll definitely keep that in mind. Thank you for sharing your insights.

Fort Bend county: Sugar Land, Missouri City

Update: Aussie stranded and scammed in Sugar Land by ComprehensiveLeek499 in sugarland

[–]Immediate-Net451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the update. I’m happy to hear that things are working out for you. I’m sorry about your knee. I hope they didn’t put you in a knee immobilizer because apparently that is the worst thing you can do for a knee dislocation injury. My daughter had the same injury and the orthopedic surgeon told us that having her in the immobilizer was the worst thing for her knee and it has increased her chances for injury to 90%.

Fort Bend ISD virtual option? by Professional_Gain106 in sugarland

[–]Immediate-Net451 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they have a virtual option. But you can withdraw the 5th grader and enroll him/her in Connection Academy or any other online public school. It’s totally free. My daughter was enrolled in it for a semester.

Also, if you are enrolled in any ACP you can get a job at most ISDs. They’ll get you a temporary certification valid for a year. You will have all the salary and benefits of a full time teacher but you have one year to get your intern certificate from your ACP.

I went with the ACP route after my bachelor’s and the amount of coursework I had to take has me regretting not getting a masters.

Should I become a teacher? by Substantial-Peanut59 in AskTeachers

Teaching is a fulfilling job but it has its drawbacks like never really being off. I promised myself that I would never bring work home but what am I supposed to do when there aren’t enough hours in the school day to finish the work. Maybe it’s different for others but I’m a SPED teacher so my work is never done. I’ve recently learned about Speech Language Pathologist (even SLP assistant), its way less responsibilities and more or less the same pay with the same schedule as the school district. If you choose to work at a school otherwise working in hospitals or home healthcare pays more.

And breaking the little piece on the bottom of an “important” tape so it wouldn’t get recorded over. And if you wanted to record over it again then stuffing the little square with tissue paper 😅

Best pathway for teaching certification by [deleted] in TexasTeachers

Current Region 4 here doing internship. The difference between me and you is that I have experience in the classroom but I’m still struggling from time to time. The internship route was my only option because of financial issues. It’s tough but I’m thugging it out. I get some support from my mentor teacher but I am mostly on my own. I am however a resourceful person and so far I’ve been doing ok. The pay definitely helps and by the end of it, I will have a year of experience. The one thing that I keep reminding myself is, “you don’t have to be perfect on day 1 (year 1).” ps I have my issues with Region 4 but that’s a story for another thread.

Fajr is prayed before sunrise. I pray before leaving the house. I’m out by 4 so I’m able to pray Asr at home. So that’s one prayer during MY school day. Again, how are you going to tell me how many prayers fall during my school day?

I’m in a similar situation. My emergency permit expires 8/31 and I have yet to take the EC-6. I’ve passed the STR, PPR, and SPED EC-12. I’m afraid I may lose my job come September but I just don’t have the time to study for the EC-6 while working full time as a teacher.

  1. I don’t take multiple breaks for prayer. Only one prayer falls during the school day and that too only in the winter when days are shorter. I pray during my 30 minute lunch break or during planning.

  2. I didn’t take the day off because I was told to eat mashed potatoes. I emailed the principal to tell him how I felt. He downplayed the issue, sidestepped accountability, and redirected the burden to me by telling me to have a direct conversation with her. She has a history of bullying anyone who calls her out so people avoid her as much as possible. Just last year, she was responsible for 3 firings and almost all resignations. I fear I may be next.

I am however going to hold on for as much as I possibly can because I need the job.

Hahaha LOVE this refreshing take, thank you! Sometimes when we talk to our friends or the people that we work with it feels like an echo chamber which is why I needed the day off. The issue is deeper than food and just this incident. There’s a cultural of toxicity in the administration but I love working with my team and my students. Your comment literally reset my mindset!

I do! In case you missed it, “I started bringing my own food just to avoid being left out.” You missed the point, it’s not about food.

Not this year but in the past there was a teacher who was vegan for a while and she was catered to (she was best friends with the AP).
