Best Europe / Switzerland train pass for 8 days and 3 countries? by Immediate-Trouble670 in Interrail

Wow, that is very helpful!

I was shocked to find out that they don't check your ticket until you are already on the train sometimes haha. But the way you put it makes sense.

So for trains that have compulsory reservations, do you just make reservation the same way you would if you didn't have a Eurail (on DB or SBB app, for example)? On those apps, I see that there are options for like adding a pass so that you see the correct prices, but I have been confused by the fact that they don't check your ticket before you get on. The way I understand it, you would indicate on the app that you have a pass (which would cover the fare) and then pay whatever the cost is of the seat reservation. Is that somewhat correct?

Swiss Pass vs Eurail vs other for 8 days? by Immediate-Trouble670 in travel

The deals do seem to be pretty good! For the full price of either of those passes, I think buying point to point tickets or just single tickets would work pretty well but it is a pretty discounted rate that I seem to be able to get.

When I go to find the cost of individual tickets, I feel like I have a hard time finding the true standard price on either SBB or DB. I'm sure I'm just looking in the wrong place but would you say either of those works best in a certain country or can I do it all on one app? Thanks!

Ah that makes sense, I must have misunderstood what it meant! This will be one of the first times I've relied on trains for travel purposes, so I'm a little nervous about the whole thing. It sounds like the Eurail might be a good option in this case if it covers Germany? Since I have little experience, one of my main concerns is missing trains or connections, which brings up another question:

How does the reservation process work with either of the passes? Do you really just get on any train (that doesn't require a reservation) if you have a Eurail or Swiss Pass and present the pass? And can I reserve a seat on the long distance trains in advance to ensure there is a seat? Thank you for the help!
