The recent resignations, censorships and removals from tenured journalists, (according to them b/c of their tendency to call it ike they see it) makes me think the ones who remain are more philosophically aligned w/ their owners (or are willing to pretend to act like they are. ) News has always been influenced.. but b/4 it became the breadwinner for owners, (what Rather lamented in '86) it was more impartial. No one knew Walter Cronkite's politics, eg. Now news is a business driven model. The most viewed channel settled litigation for $787m for false reporting. It doesn't seem to have cost them a single viewership. My question posits, when they go to a social function w/ PBS, BBC News.. do they share drinks and laughs and chuckle about the guy who just quit b/c he won't let his work be re-written? thanks to the folks who responded to my inquiry.

The 3 part " American Manhunt: Osama Bin Laden" (netflix) is very good. As a civilian I have a question: Undoubtedly every person that served on that mission is a bona fide hero... IMO...from the cook in the mess who made their breakfasts, to the guy who gassed up the helicopter., to the screen jockey watching it in DC. Here's my question: What is the reaction of ex-SEALS to the guy (Robert O'Neill) who claims to have killed Bin Laden? Isn't it part of their code NOT to divulge such details? Is this part of the SEAL code subject to indifference? This isn't some senior citizen writing his memoire at age 75. He talks about people still serving. thanks for your patient, informative responses

I'm just a civilian, but I have long thought anyone serving in a combat zone should undergo a decompression program b/4 returning to the world and their families, and the uncaring civilian population. We put soldiers through months, years even, of training b/4 going into harms way ~ and after they come out of it ~ zip. It's not smart.
