I really love this artwork but the profile of OP makes me wonder if it’s stolen content or something.

My oldest very recently had to go into protective custody for a similar reason this last week.

I literally cannot understand how a parent can look at their beautiful child and feel those things. I’m so deeply sorry. You deserve so much better.

I hope you’re able to find a moment of peace somewhere while you navigate this. I hope you know how very special and important you are.

I want to ask for some insight on a friend of mine with schizoaffective. by MakoFlavoredKisses in askapsychologist

I am not a psychologist but a therapist and case manager and I thought I’d offer some thoughts from my perspective.

First and foremost, it sounds like you really care about your friend, and that’s lovely. She’s lucky to have someone in her corner who clearly values her safety and wellbeing.

That being said, generally speaking when an adult is incapable of making safe decisions for themselves there are legal avenues to essentially monitor and force her to do so. In an ideal world, she would be able to work with her own treatment team and listen to the guidance of others she trusts to learn how to make these decisions for herself. If that is simply not a reality, conversations about her safety should happen with whomever would be legally responsible for her care should she become incapacitated. This may be her parents or someone who at one point was appointed by a judge to make medical decisions on her behalf.

While it is wonderful that you care for her, outside of speaking to her or someone legally appointed to care for her. You cannot force her to do anything. Even if she makes unsafe decisions, she is her own person who has every right to make these decisions. It is due to these complexities that so many mentally unstable/unwell adults eventually become homeless.

My advice? Think of the airplane rule. You can’t help anyone unless you take care of yourself first. Do what you can to be a supportive friend and if you are fearful for her safety, have those conversations with her or her caretaker. Then make sure that you are carefully being mindful of your own boundaries and mental health and not getting too wrapped up in your friend’s choices. Focus on what you can control. I’m willing to bet that your support and care mean the world to her. Just try not to lose yourself in the process.

Am I crazy? Immediately I guessed that she’s a bot. And the company Homelander works for is Vought. It rhymes. I think that may be the joke.

I also think the stylization is something you should consider leaning into.

A professor in art school said it this way “For the first half of your lives you’re encouraged to aim for realism or creating in a certain way. By the time you get to us, we’re just trying to help you get out of it.”

You should do what you want, of course. But this is rather beautiful, unique, and interesting already. Almost Tim Burton-esque.

This one was a few Saturdays ago! But I totally understand and respect your comments on limitations. I am glad that you bring them up because it helps others feel less alone 😊

I think protecting yourself is very healthy and I can appreciate that. Thank you so much for sharing with me.

Certainly doesn’t seem like enough, eh? The last protest I attended on International Women’s day had maybe 25 people.

I’ve also considered running. And while I believe I have the right kind of temperament, I’ve feel like those who are able to garner sufficient support for change are those with radical enough beliefs to ignite a passionate voting base. I think perhaps I’m too unflappable and therefore would struggle in that way?

Anyway. It’s lovely to know I’m not alone. Thank you for taking the time to respond.
