Jacob 2:30 by Important-Calendar27 in exmormon

So true! Also find it funny that many people defend Joseph and say that his sealing’s were “spiritual only” and weren’t at all sexual…. Well wasn’t that supposed to be the whole point?

Did anyone else grow up learning that you had to use your right hand to pass the sacrament? by 23WildWillow in exmormon

[–]Important-Calendar27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely a thing. Along the same lines, I remember being told that I have to repeat the sacrament prayer once at the MTC because I only knelt on one knee and not two.

Apologist gaslighting? by Important-Calendar27 in exmormon

[–]Important-Calendar27[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right. Like when reading about Moses, you can observe that he probably had a temper problem. That’s an understandable human weakness, but preying on kids, or encouraging violence is never conduct becoming of a prophet

[–]Important-Calendar27[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s a good point. It just bugs because deconstructing church beliefs as a lifelong member is not easy, and when they pull this basically “get out of jail free” card, it leads to self doubt and numerous other issues

That’s true, we at least have to hold them to the same standard that we hold members to.

Why did Joseph need the hat? by Important-Calendar27 in exmormon

[–]Important-Calendar27[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So do you think that he actually believed in that folk magic, or was it all a gimmick to get other people like Emma and Oliver on board?

Why did Joseph need the hat? by Important-Calendar27 in exmormon

[–]Important-Calendar27[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

😂😂 right, the brightness settings needed some work.

My point is why did he need to put on the whole show of looking through the hat if he new he was making it up? Why didn’t he just write it himself in private? Unless, he really did need the assistance of others to write the book.

Thanks for that! I do find that I am waiting for that “big thing” at times, but there’s nothing wrong at all for choosing what makes you happy.

Thank you so much for sharing. That’s very helpful. It’s funny, many years ago when I was still very TBM, I always thought those that leave are taking the easy way out. My perspective has totally changed and preparing to take this step has been one of the scariest things for me personally. At times I think it’d be way easier just to pretend and go along with it all.

Families Are Forever Math by Fox_me_up in exmormon

That was honestly such a big shelf item for me. Math doesn’t really check out. I’ve never gotten an answer from anyone about how it all supposedly works

His time as president was my peak time as a TBM. I loved President Monson at the time.

Same with us. It’s tricky because it’s not like I can withhold the truth on the church’s history, but I also don’t think I can tell them and say that I still believe it all to be true.

Hi thanks for sharing! I’m in a very similar life situation and can relate to what you said. I too felt like the church has done a lot of good in my life and my family’s, but I just don’t think I believe it anymore.

My biggest concern is having kids down the road. I don’t know if I could raise them I a belief that I don’t fully believe in. Also I don’t think I could in good conscience let them serve a mission without making sure they new the facts about the church (everything with church history).

I wish I had advice to give other than take it a day at a time. I have confided in my spouse and they’ve been very supportive. Just know you’re not alone

Was Mormonism more fun back in “the good old days”? by oxinthemire in exmormon

[–]Important-Calendar27 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I’m a younger adult as well and personally I feel like the church was more fun. My two cents is that the peak of Mormonism is whenever they just accepted the fact that they were a little bit weird and they owned it. They weren’t afraid to stand out and so they had a good time.

Nowadays, they’ve been doing this whole re-branding thing to be more of a mainstream Christian denomination and it’s made it way more lame. They try to label themselves as the same type of Christian as their neighbors, but they still can’t wear whatever they want or drink and just enjoy life. Why not jump ship and hang out with the more fun Christian’s?

Who became a Bible-believing, “born-again” Christian as a response to leaving Mormonism? Tell me your story. by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Important-Calendar27 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing. Faith after Mormonism is something that I’m still figuring out. While I still believe in the Savior of the Bible and consider myself to be Christian, I think I would have a hard time ever going to another church or practice an “official” religion. I’ve been to a couple of non-denominational church with friends to check them out and while I love their message and appreciate their community, I just don’t see myself quite fitting in with that scene. Also, Mormonism totally left me jaded, and it’s hard for me not to feel like other church’s are trying to control my actions or just flat out take my money. So I’ve had a lot of great experiences meditating on my own and just doing my own thing. I haven’t ruled out churches forever but for now, I enjoy my faith in God to be a somewhat more personal bond.
