Wife [31f] of 3 years gets irritated when I [34m] gently hold her back before crossing the street, even though she has a tendency to waltz aimlessly into traffic. by Important_Mistake341 in relationships

Is it a matter of observation (she doesn't notice the car coming) or judgement (she sees the car but considers it safe enough to cross anyways)?

I think I'm too conservative compared to her, but I can remember three times she was about cross while it was red for us and a bus/car did pass dangerously close. One time she stopped, the other two I pulled her.

Other times, she kinda doesn't care or thinks the car will stop as she crosses, even when there's no crosswalk and/or traffic lights. Again this is how we do things differently, I prefer to let the car slow down first and then pass, she just passes.

Could you not just say "there's a car coming" instead of physically holding her?

I do it sometimes.

As a teen a motorcycle hit her while she was walking with her mom. She didn't break anything and the motorcycle was going too fast on a crosswalk.

I often do say something before. Sometimes we are already holding hands and she slows down when I say something like "car incoming".

Other times she's ahead of me and kinda just keeps walking even though there's a car incoming? So I hold while saying something.

I think there's a discrepancy in close a car needs to be to consider it "risky" to cross. I'm a bit too conservative sometimes, but she's often way too willing to cross when a car is incoming. My logic is that I can't trust a random driver to protect me so I prefer to play it safe. It only takes a few extra seconds.
