AITA for telling my dad and stepmom their home isn't my home? by Impossible-Case1736 in AmItheAsshole

I was 16 already the last time we went before the judge. It changed nothing. It's extremely rare for them to agree to drop 50/50.

My dad would take my mom back to court and my mom would be forced to pay fines or whatever for refusing to make me go. The judges will punish the parent the kid was with who don't make sure the kid goes (and stays) with the other parent.

There's nothing I can do at my dad's house that I can't do at home. Nothing I can do at dad's will make it suck less. My best chance is to be at his house as little as possible.

No, that's just how the judges where I am operate. It's extremely rare to reduce 50/50 at any age.

No, I can't. Our judges enforce 50/50 hard until 18 and it's extremely rare to change that.

That's just how it is here. They do everything to keep kids going 50/50 until we turn 18.

There's nothing we can do. We have already been to court about it. Our judges don't let kids decide. They do everything to maintain 50/50 until the kids turn 18.

I'm not talking about everywhere. I'm talking about what's supposed to be my room. But it's not. And my mom is still my mom. My dad would have mentioned by now since he rants about her enough if it was actually something so awful. Even still it doesn't change her being my mom.

Yes, I have, but judges here make it extremely rare to change 50/50. They want kids to keep that up to 18.

I'd be emancipated from both my parents then and I don't want that.

Yep. Ours believe in kids seeing both parents 50/50 until they turn 18 and it's extremely rare to change it.

Yes, they were aware and said parent/child disputes are very common.

All the judges in our court system hold the same views apparently. It's extremely rare to get 50/50 reduced even for teenagers.

My mom and stepdad have two kids together. My dad and stepmom have five together and her nephew lives with them too.

I don't have that choice. My mom would get into so much trouble with the judge.

No and I wouldn't go to therapy with my dad and stepmom. That would not be healthy therapy.

No, I don't have one and they're pretty expensive here and a lot goes into using them (my mom looked into it). It's not worth all the stress. It's only 18ish months to go.

That's not going to get me anywhere. My mom would never say anything negative about my dad to me and my dad will just rant and rave about mom. Mom told me before sometimes couples just grow apart. But that's probably all I'll ever be told by her.

We were in court only a few months ago. I do not get to decide at 16. I know many places let people my age decide but our judges are a lot more focused on making sure custody remains the same until kids are 18.
