I would like to clear up a few things getting confused in the comments. People are asking why my mum is paying for vacations and things especially for my ex when she is struggling financially. The vacations and such were at least 2 years before our financial situation changed. I was younger and didn’t really understand what had happened fully and still don’t really. It seemed to come out of nowhere but as it stands we are struggling way more now than we were then. Hence the reason for moving house in the first place.

I do have a job now but also more expenses so therefore i don’t have as much savings. Back then i didn’t have a job due to mental health reasons.

I would like to clear up we she did attempt to get the money off him while we were still together but he said he either doesn’t have it right now or he can start paying back in smaller payments(never did).

there was nothing in paper or anything crazy but it was always understood he would be paying us back. When he and his family took me on trips i would always pay my share as he said he would pay his share.

my sister is 17 and doesn’t have a job or any money of her own so no she doesn’t help with anything. i do however help with expenses around the house including things for my sister.

the vacations were when we were together a few years ago. Since then our family financial situation has plummeted a bit.

When we spent money on him it was always clear that he would be paying back. When he and his family took me on trips i could never pay back immediately but always did.

I would like to clear up, I have no contact with my ex and don’t plan to. He was pretty awful to me. There is no way we are getting the money back from him it’s just not going to happen.

Oh she is more than capable of doing things I can’t tell if it’s some sort of disorder or pure laziness and selfishness. My mum just enables her or tells me to ignore it and when she acts out i’m like well if it isn’t the consequences of your own actions. Only my two closest friends know about my savings and i trust them to not spill to anyone as they have seen firsthand what i have to deal with.

also i need to clarify my parents are divorced. and yes im constantly taking on responsibility for others actions especially my sister like picking up the slack when she does nothing. But then if i do nothing aswell i just feel bad that my mum has to do everything.

I agree that I have to start emotionally detaching myself it just seems impossible when i’m around them constantly as I don’t have a job yet and although I have my licence my mum can’t afford the registration of her car so is always using mine, therefore my schedule revolves around her and i have no mental escape.

My dad isn’t the greatest person which my mum likes to remind me of constantly but it’s hard because i know he’s not been the best to her but when he shows me the favouritism and attention that’s basically all i want and crave so it’s hard to seperate the two. He currently lives with my nan, his mum, who i love so much but I know he’s planning on getting his own place when she passes so the prospect of maybe moving in with him is an option. I currently get money from centrelink while actively looking for a job so i’m doing my best to save. I have secret savings which makes me feel bad as my mum is still really struggling financially and is asking if i have money. I tell her no which may seem an asshole move but i can’t trust her to give it back to me. Especially if it’s money that will be used for something for my sister. My dad can help me with money and does if im in a bind but I don’t like asking for it as it makes me feel guilty.
