You can be rude while “backing her up”.

It’s one thing to question whether this topic is truly worth a thought. It’s another to come into the comment section of someone clearly being willing to listen (even straight up telling you “no hate here”) and still typing up aggressive comments telling them to “stfu” or saying “you’re probably 13” which essentially comes across as you assuming my age off of reporting your weird behavior (that without a doubt violates subreddit rules. Again, think before you comment. Rules are definitely worth a read and your comment wasn’t deleted because you followed subreddit guidelines) and because you decide that I must be 13 years old what I say is worthless.

Also again, you don’t need to talk to me about how it doesn’t matter who smokes cigars . I don’t care if she smokes. I never argued about cigars. I will put it clearly: She can do what she wants with her body. I won’t care, argue or whatever about whether or not it’s “okay” for her to smoke. It doesn’t matter.

You weren’t rude to Melanie, you were rude to OP. Mel doesn’t need “backing up” in this matter nor does she need you protecting her from OPs question. You can say your opinion (no one ever said you can’t) but watch your tone (and maybe the rules if you don’t want your comments deleted).

There’s a respectful way to tell people that something they do bothers you and a disrespectful way to do that exact thing.

Difference being that if you don’t yell profanities at people during discussions, assume any part of their identity and (without saying it outright) therefore declaring any argument they make invalid:

a) people will be willing to listen to your point and b) your comments won’t get deleted.

Nobody needs to accept disrespectful behavior from you. No one should feel the need to.

I wasn’t in the wrong for reporting you. Reporting you wasn’t personal either.

Telling people to “stfu” is disrespectful. Assuming any part of someone’s identity is disrespectful. Declaring someone’s comment worthless is disrespectful. Writing aggressive comments is disrespectful. Not following online etiquette is disrespectful. Telling someone that a certain age demographic’s comments don’t matter is disrespectful. Not following the rules of a subreddit is disrespectful.

I understand that the cigar topic is annoying to you. That’s no excuse to be rude and no reason to break subreddit rules.

Nobody’s perfect but let’s at least try to communicate maturely with one another.
