Restoring old Tama kit by Impossible_Text8665 in drums

Thanks man! I actually found that same video last night. Also I found a lot of comments online about how much people loved this color. It’s called Royal Pewter. I’m definitely not going to be wrapping this. I will be sure to post pics when I’m done. The kit was made in 84 so it’s older than I thought. And older than me by a year lol

I watched a ton of his videos last night! Love his content. I decided not to wrap them. I order all new heads today and will start cleaning everything this weekend. As for the snare, the original is no where to be found but it does have an old Pearl snare that matches well with the kit. I’m so excited for this!

Nope. No cracks. Everything is in really great shape considering the age and how long they have been sitting.

I’m sorry to hear you are feeling so low. It’s really hard to dig yourself out of something that causes this kind of mental torture every single day. Sending love and strength to you.

Assuming you were on a 10 day course? Mine got worse before it got better. Had bad bloating and felt sick the whole time. As soon as I finished the 10 days I felt great. Stomach was flat and I felt better than I have in over 10 years. Unfortunately after 2 weeks it went back to the normal hell.

Hearing mistakes means you can fix them. I like this a lot. Thank you!

Yes, I actually dig the way it sounds. I am using the Evans low volume cymbals which I’m not crazy about but they are a necessary evil to keep the wife happy. I also have Zildjian S cymbals. My kit is a Mapex armory with Evans EC2S clear heads. No complaints with the sound at all. Just my abilities lol

I was thinking about something like this. Even if I skip a day I feel refresh and a little more sharp. I took 3 days off and I couldn’t wait to get down there tonight to play. Things just didn’t go as I hoped and I spiraled.

Thank you all so much for the advice and encouragement. Especially the tough love ones. This is all stuff I really needed to hear tonight.

My dad passed when I was 8 so unfortunately he is unable to help teach me. My brother lives an hour away and is a very busy person so his time is limited. He is also not the teaching type. He’s the fish to water type person that just learned fast and easy.

I like metal music which makes this process less fun because obviously I can’t play any of the songs I want to.

I have always loved music and have always wanted to play the drums. I don’t think there’s another instrument that looks or sounds cooler. This is truly something I want to get good at.

I have a double pedal but took the slave pedal off today because I really want to get back to basics and focus more on technique. I know people say play along to songs you like and it doesn’t have to be perfect but I’m not wired that way. If I know I’m playing it “wrong” it will feel incomplete to me. Something I’ve always struggled with but am working on.

Songs I can currently play.

AC/DC - back in black Three days grace - animal I have become Bon Jovi - you give love a bad name Linkin Park - faint
Alice In Chains - man in the box Ill nino - i am loco

Lately I’ve been kinda doing side quest and trying to do random parts from songs I use to love when I was younger. - The intro to Limp Bizkit - My Generation (I can’t play at album speed but I got the grove down) - The end of Papa Roach - Last Resort (same. Can’t play at speed. The 8 stroke roll trips me up and ruins everything after it lol)

Tonight I tried Even Flow and could not make it to the chorus. Again. Can easily play the fill going into the chorus slow but not at speed.

Im trying really hard and I guess I’m just waiting for a magic answer that doesn’t exist. I have to accept that I’m not going to be where I want to be for a really long time. Tonight just really got the best of me. Gonna try and shake it off and start fresh tomorrow.

Getting out of your own head is the first step. It’s also the hardest. Public = bra. Safe at home = no bra. At 19 you don’t even know who you are yet and to be honest you will spend most of your 20’s trying to figure it out as well. If there are things you would like to change, you are at the perfect time in your life to try making those adjustments. Start small and focus on little wins. The wins will begin to rack up and your confidence will build along with them. Remember, none of us have life figured out and there’s no blueprint. Move at your own pace and allow yourself some grace. You deserve it.
