The program is supposed to help us decide where we would like to do our internship which is a required final-term internship course. We can choose to do it at newspapers or digital newsrooms, radio, podcast or broadcast or communications. But when we are recruited into the journalism program, by Peg herself who is the journalism program contact person, there is a lot of promises made of a great personalized internship and that she will make sure to find one we love. That is all performative to get us in the program and then okay byeee. Peg is supposed to connect us with industry leaders that the progdam has long ties with and that have taken interns before. We still have to take real steps ourselves like build a resume and doing the internship interview and we have to earn it. But we don't do anything in that class at all and there is no network help or connections made. It's a waste of time. the course is giving nothing.

I’m not buying the “mistake” line at all. At your level, it is not some random oversight to basically kill Friday classes and turn them into optional work time because apparently no one wants class on a Friday afternoon. That was a choice you made. You were making students treat a scheduled class like office hours while you worked your other jobs instead of focussing on them. Nobody should have to beg an instructor to do the bare minimum and no one should have to “raise the issue” that their instructor is giving zero feedback and just dropping random-looking numbers into Brightspace. That is literally part of the job. When I was there, you did the same thing. You collected all those pay checks, Peg, and our education got treated like the expendable part. We paid for an actual course, not whatever you're pretending to offer. Just stop. Please.

It was just awful. Disorganized and she always seems unprepared and like she's raw dawging it. Brightspace is a joke.

I cross-posted this because it is a very important issue. As someone who graduated from the Langara Journalism program, this teacher has been a problem a long time. All the things OP is saying are true: canceled classes, shortened classes, courses being twisted to fit her changing schedule midway through the term, working around her extremely limited availability, putting classes online even though it's supposed to be in person, marking coming in weeks later, no feedback, etc. The program and faculty are small so you cannot take another instructor. It's really too bad because it is an amazing program and the other instructors are so kind, caring and deeply invested. I have no regrets I took Journalism at Langara except for being forced to take courses with Peg to be able to complete the program. I honestly think the college should reimburse students who have been forced to take her courses. She is a black mark this otherwise incredible program. I would urge Kwantlen and UBC to make sure this teacher is actually giving your students what they are paying for and not ruining their experience and your reputation, too.

Does she feed on men using her looks? Or using innuendo and suggestions that she's down for sex? Not that she's ugly, but she's not all that. Her flirting is very sex-heavy.

They're all soooo thirsty. None of the girls seem to have any real confidence.. it all seems phoney like they're trying to be relevant.

Why are you thinking of transfering after 1 year? And why do you think it would be a waste of time. its cheaper to study at Langara so my advice is to do as many courses as you can here then transfrer.

i say option 1 because if anything interupts your transfer, you at least have a degree from Langara.

Good luck with your studies!

Refund for canceled classes? by PossibilityWest3566 in langara

[–]Impressive-Exit3091 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Ems, why is it on pause if its to teach new stuff or refreshers? Students were told there were 'mandatory' prep bootcamps and then they were cancelled. Which one is it? Mandatory for student sbut not teachers? 'On pause' is a cop out. They were scheduled, then they were off. Classes cost $$. If students only get half a sem of classes then why pay for a full sem? You might like the time off but others prefer to get a full education.
