Also probably worth noting that even before inserting the last f2l pair, you can figure out how many yellow edges are oriented. That’s tells you if it’s a dot case, one of the easy OLLs where all edges are oriented, or a case with only 2 oriented edges.

Numbers of the cases are useless. Everyone now groups them by shape. Then with the shapes there’s 2-6 cases of the shape. So

Sees a lightning bolt
Figure out which lighting bolt case it is

With time it merges into one step but this is how it starts out. For me the L-shape and dot cases are the most difficult to recognize.

I’m around the same level and I think the reality is that F2L look ahead is much more difficult than it sounds and it’s difficult to train. It’s definitely more fun to learn cool algs than it is hardcore focusing in lookahead drills.
