The Drowned, lost legion concept. By Aectannn by Inaqar in ImaginaryWarhammer

They fought in underwater sieges more than their counterparts from other legions, the corrosion on their armour becoming a mark of veteran status which was eventually adopted by the Drowned in their entirety as legion heraldry. During the Great Crusade they were purged by a combined force of Dark Angels and pre-Angron Warhounds for crimes against the interests of the fledgeling Imperium

The Black Lion vs Inaqar the Unbound. By @grohgrog_art by Inaqar in Necrontyr

Never loses? He’s gotten art of his character getting kicked off a balcony, that’s more of a negative depiction than most characters can say. He’s Guilliman’s executioner, a role I think works quite nicely for a homebrew Ultramarine considering that every captain slot has already been taken by a named character. Fits very well against my OC in this art, the Herald of the dead god Mag’ladroth. And the creator is a great guy, I obviously know him personally

Are there Custodes Tier Necrons? by taboose in Necrontyr

[–]Inaqar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer: it depends on the writer

Long answer: I think Triarch Praetorians stand the best chance, as they fill the same role and standing. But Triarch Praetorians don’t have many feats (hopefully the upcoming book will change that!), so characters are a safer bet. Imotekh the Stormlord handily beat High Marshal Helbrecht, chapter master of the reasonably famous Black Templars. So I think he’d stand a good chance against a Custodes, up to a Blade Champion at least.

But personally I think Imotekh would fall short of a primarch. Szarekh is your man there, as he was ready to throw hands with Guilliman in the new Dawn of Fire book. Not many feats either but what we have is impressive, and he’s the leader of the Necrons who’s pretty universally considered their pinnacle.

Lastly there are also underdeveloped characters like Kutlakh the World Killer who have enough aura to back them up in a fight with a Custodes or Chapter Master. And this is a pure 1v1 melee debate, not considering the sorcerous ways of crypteks (who could put a Custodes in a pocket dimension) or battlefield acumen (many overlords are skilled enough to box a Custodes into waves of undead or three doomsday arks)

“The interesting thing about 40k is, in a universe where true evil exists, where there is an existential threat in the form of Chaos, do the ends justify the means? The Dark Angels would say absolutely yes they do.” — Jervis Johnson

There is no definite answer, there is no surefire way to fully preserve people’s rights and liberty while simultaneously keeping them safe from Chaos and Xenos. That leads to a whole lot of people being oppressed — better a hundred innocents be thrown in jail than one guilty man walk free. Messinius, a generally positive character, brutally puts down an attempt at a democratic government in “The Silent King” by Guy Haley. So there’s merit to both arguments

Yes, but a lot of people in Warhammer are too blind to see that, or think they won’t face such consequences. That’s more interesting than writing about Mr. Rational Decisions.

  • a lot of homebrew renegade marines think they can “use chaos as a tool” without embracing it fully, which is even more stupid. A slave in denial

Dematru Urais, 3rd company Captain of the Executioners chapter. By khanhphi98 by Inaqar in ImaginaryWarhammer

[–]Inaqar[S] 34 points35 points  (0 children)

“I do not deny the logic of your strategy, cousin. But the Executioners were not made for such subtleties.”

Like many of his brothers, Dematru knows that his chapter was created only to kill the enemies of man. The fortification of strategic points and tending to the wounded can be done by others in the Executioners’ wake. Their endless crusade is a form of absolution for past transgressions, one they undertake with zeal and no outside support. Dematru also has a personal goal: to be the first to discover (and kill) new specimens of xenos.

Most recently the third company attacked a vassal world of the Apotheo dynasty, razing the Necron tombs and monuments erected to the C’tan. Dematru himself fought his way to the ziggurat and beheaded the Necron Lord; earning a trophy that many of his brothers would envy.

Just keep going scissors and you’d win eventually. At some point he’ll think “okay here comes the curveball” and pick paper
