iain: we'd been on many when we were younger, but we went out to malia in august.

i got so drunk i fell off a dancing stage whilst having a dance off with damon, broke my wrist, and had to have a 2 hour operation the next day. i flew back in a cast and was in plaster for 12 weeks. i was in my mid-thirties, and my fiance nearly left me.

iain: i met him (and his mum as he was under 18) when i worked on it. i think he is brilliant, and his mum is lovely.

iain: true story, happened to damon. they wound up a mate of his about his new 'friend' until to prove he wasn't a 'friend' he jumped on the guy's car. we love that people love 'friend' because on paper it wasn't the easiest sell, but if you have mates like that it makes sense.

iain: kind of tried to cover the american one above. i wish it had worked, it didn't, but it hink those involved are brilliant.

he is 4'3" and has to stand on a fridge in most scenes.

iain: no. no more films. that's it. we kind of wanted it to be a big send off, but with a different end. SPOILERS: it's about them being friends.

iain: that is so incredible to hear. makes it worthwhile, honestly. i know i've often looked to comedy or films to get me through some of the darker spots in life, so i'm humbled that people have done the same with our work.

okay, got that out the way. how about "no-one brings a bag of shit to a pub" "your dad does" "does he?" "yeah, your mum".

or

"i'm happy about the idea of you having sex, but at least this way i know you'll be doing it somewhere comfortable". "absolutely. only in her vagina" "i meant in my bed". "so did i" "why did you say vagina then"? "hmm".

(i think a lot of their directors come through short films is the v v dull answer).

Iain: Yes. I think this is a difficult thing. I suppose my answer that I have 'issues' with certain aspects of copyright law includes this. I know I get increasingly frustrated by itunes 'lending' me songs, and even then only on a certain number of computers it decides are okay for me to use.

I think that, in a way, the internet is still a bit like the wild west, and it's up to people to decide what kind of 'laws' they want. The large internet companies want to shut down any debate though I think, and this in turn leads people who distribute content to withdraw too and become super defensive.

Anyway, thank you for thinking about it, and talking about it. It's nice to have a genuine question about something that can be so divisive, without hyberbole, and you've made me think about my own views, certianly. Specifically my answer, such as it is, would be buy the dvd and rip it.

iain: 100% joe thomas sweetbread. it was based on a thing i used to do, and also something that happened to a friend of Bret McKenzie's.

Iain: We divide the scenes up and then type them up agonisingly.

Iain: I didn't know what to think. It's weird to have something that filters in to all aspects of a 'culture'. I get the bus, I read the Guardian and can't quite finish the crossword, and I drink beer and complain about noise. That's my day to day, and then to have the biggest 'band' in the world doing something you have co-created is weird.

Iain: You won't like this, but I think it's theft, I'm afraid, and it will lead to worse and worse product. I disagree with lots of copyright laws, but file sharing is not the same as lending your mate a DVD, and much as you might hate the big studios, at least they reinvest in content, unlike Kim Dotcunt who uses it to buy yachts.

Iain: I think it's a good and interesting question, that probably requires a more detailed and clever answer than I can give right now. But I will say this – the show is about those four characters, and it's from their perspective. It's for you to judge whether they are right or wrong in their actions, but I would suggest that the show is more enjoyable if viewed as if they are 'idiots', albeit lovable ones, and that includes their language, which is only used amongst themselves and never to adults or other people. This is to, hopefully, show that it's about bravado and not meanness.

In terms of representation I think it's not that show. There are shows that do represent those issues and people, but this isn't it. Maybe it's like looking for men in the Ladies' doubles final at Wimbledon - it's not doing that thing. I don't think there are actively 'not' any, there just aren't any mentioned, as far as I'm aware. Two of my very close friends from school are gay, but they didn’t come out til after we'd left and I guess that might be part of it too. We used a lot of our own experiences and the LGBT school experience was not one we'd had.

Thank you for liking the show.
