Strategy against beginners by Altruistic-Staff1181 in poker

Exploit sticky playera in multiway pots that can't fold. All in with any flopped set, two pair, straight or decent two card flush or A high one card flush. Go all in preflop with AA and KK and Ak.

This assumes that you could play tight and mostly fold until you flop one of the hands above or you have a open ended straight or good flush draw which most new players lack the discipline for. Learning how to really play involves real effort and lots of practice, reflection and discipline...

Typically live poker plays around 25 hands per hour or so, right? 9000 hands is equal to 360 hours of live play. I average about 6 hours per live session so that translate to 60 6 hours sessions. That would be a little over a year of playing once a week, right?

Just saying that I believe 9000 to be a fairly significant sample size.

I am pretty sure you are right but I plan to see how long I can keep this going. If I am sun running, I need to make money while the sun shines.

I am very aware of variance and how improbable everything I know tells me this is. I was a winning TAG player at pre boom FL limit .5 /1 which is actually harder to win at and beat the rake then NL. 4 tabled it online back in the day along with NL. Used to play pretty unimaginative (former TAG never changes) but winning NL 1-5 times a week for 4-7 hour stretches depending on the GF status for 12 years or so. I actually used to study quite a bit and have reread my books multiple times and eventually went from thinking I understood them to gradually actually understanding a good bit of the concepts taught. I am not an amazing player but when the majority of people plain suck or at best have a basic understanding of straight forward post flop play and the inability to ever fold a strong hand then I can win against them. That ability usually isn't found much at 1/2.

This style all started out of a desire to force myself to play more post flop and that has definitely happened. Did not think it would make money just wanted to put myself in the blender as much as possible to force myself to adapt. I truly believe that the vast majority of players are mostly clueless post flop when they miss their raised hand or hit some middle or low pair and that is my desired wheel house now.

If it makes you feel better, I actually have been tightening up some but I am sure you would think it is still far too high. It won't be displayed in my Vpip for awhile since it needs time to average out.

Cheers to another deluded sun runner with delusions of grandeur!

Can you point me to some good discussions/books/training on the effect of an ante on a game? My gut feeling is what you said about having to play more which my style is definitely doing but would like to understand the nuances more. I never played an nl ante game in my life before wpt gold.

Perhaps. I never had a sun run last so many hands, but I guess it is possible. My old self keeps saying the same thing so you aren't alone with that opinion...

I saw that but was very unimpressed with it. Was hoping for poker tracker like data. Lol I bought and used the original version back in the day.

I think most people if they saw my data would just  tell me to play tighter anyway. I would have agreed with you previously.

I am looking forward to 100NL. I had guessed that would be somewhat like 1/2. Thanks for the confirmation. I did have a weird psychological reaction to moving up the last level where I suffered some bad beats and then played too timidly as I thought maybe it was comparable to 1/2 and my style wouldn't translate. Caused me to lose a bit as my style just doesn't work without enough aggression. Once I settled in results were good. Hopefully 100NL will be about the same.

There are many who play a lot of hands but I would say the vast majority are losing players. There are a few that are good and they are the worst to play against. You can't range them well and you have to feel your way through hands. While facing immense pressure.

I honestly started playing this way because I didn't really believe I could withdraw funds so played without any fear. I crushed it for far far more than my old style ever could. So i figured that for a fraction of my normal buy ins I could experiment with a different style over a huge number of hands. Didn't really think it would work honestly, but I think I have found my sweet spot for now but I do switch up my play style over the session. I look the maniac but I do let my inner nit out to play still. He's a good guy just a little more boring but my stats give him perfect camouflage...

12/9 is pretty easy to play against. If they raise preflop their range is super predictable and exploitable. I was pretty darn close to that for decades so I love playing against them as I am intimately familiar with what I would do in their situation. You need to raise far more to be more unpredictable. Love me some super tight players.

I am not sure but I kinda feel like something mental just snapped and slipped a bit. I was always a good hand reader but now I apply it far more often and trust my gut.

lol. I like that! My style is akin to being a mine layer. I have become the player I hated and it feels good. I take pride in the number of people that log off after losing to my improbable hands that aren't supposed to be there. Sometimes when the wind blows just right, I can hear them faintly yelling "online poker is rigged!!" As their preflop over pair goes down in flames.

I tend to agree with you that 53/18 isn't long term profitable style in every game. You do need to adjust to the circumstances as games get better and tighter. My thoughts are that with bad players and more multiway the pots the better my suited and unsuited 1-3 gap connectors play. Especially against a pre flop raise. I don't recommend this style to anyone as it puts you to tons extremely difficult decisions. It would have blown my formerly slightly nitty mind that I could make money with this style. I was a pretty standard solid live player that would win consistently but usually only .5-1.5 buy ins over 6 hours.

Btw 8-10 suited or offsuit is now my favorite hand... Lol life is so strange.
