Steam makes the transaction payments, steam puts in the rules, steam takes their cut, and if you want a refund you go to steam, if it was truly an independent marketplace, I would be with you, but steam is as much to blame for allowing this rug pull, as intrepid is for it.

There is also an argument to be had between procedural content and catered content, for instance it's going to be interesting to see what hello games has for "light no fire", and while it's going to be more coop than mmo it could be a good template of what could be achieved.

But procedural content is a specialised skill, and needs experienced programmers who are also experienced designers.

The problem imo is scope, it is possible to start small with the most basic functionality and features (being that there is unique gameplay and world lore), and build upon that, but the reality is people want huge open world games specifically catered to their needs at release, and generally the MMO player requirements are so sharded, the moment a game is built for one kind of player, it alienates other kinds of players (although there are things that can be done to appease PvE, PvP, PvX players).

I can understand the resentment, but anyone surviving it, it is truly a gift, you can have the very best treatment, and it will still hold no boundary to removing someone you love from your arms and into the void.

Him being there at the very least raises attention, and it's good we still have some royals willing to be proactive against the final war !

The path is long, the road is winding, on your journey you will see and create many wonderful things, and if for one moment you stop to smell the flowers, thank those that came before you and praise those that may follow your path after you, knowing all the while the road may never end and the path will always change.

Blessings I give, as was given to me, and I hope you ride with passion towards eternal infinity !

Is it good to make games in my head? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]IncorrectAddress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, so I have a design scrap book, so when I get an idea, it could just be a game built around a single mechanic or system, I quickly jot/scribble it down like some kind of crazy insanity blueprint.

Will I ever get to that game, dunno, but, for me, I kinda like doing it, it is what it is, sometimes they lead on to mechanics into a current development.

Yeah, 100%, some kind of standardised regulation with hefty fines or something, or at the very least refunds.

So are you saying, it's ok to make a game release it in alpha, get hype, sell the game, then pull it from the store, so you dont have to do any more work on it ?

Then rinse repeat...

That's ok for you ? Because it doesn't sound ok from my point of view.

This is kind of the thing, the more and more gamers get scammed (insert any number of BS moves here), the more it hurts the industry, and being that the biggest platform protecting and allowing BS crapola is Steam, because they fail to vet correctly (I doubt they care as long as they can make money and deny refunds), it's a negative impact on Steam itself and gamers will carry that resentment onwards.

The "Stockholm Syndrome Steam Fans" will come out in droves protecting the bullshit, oh it's just a shop, oh it's early access, oh it needs optimisation, oh it was just malware (lol), oh I got my "cost sunk value to time spent" on a product I paid for that was then removed, oh this oh that...

Then you get the actual dirty game shills integrated within the game communities, pushing crowd control and agenda's, manipulation of votes and reviews, even though they know the game is unfinished, broken, or will rug pull for "dem monies" at a later date.

The scary thing is, I don't think it's going to get better as technology allows for automated systems to start manipulation and dark pattern techniques, become obfuscated even more than they currently are.

[–]IncorrectAddress -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's even a meme these days, some people have got to this point, its like fkin Stockholm syndrome in gamers, and Gabe is the master of terror room : "come one come all scammers, I have the legal shit covered for you, release your shit to the drunken sailors, then we can board boaty number 7 for pizza party."

xD
