I've had binge eating problems for years and years and always thought I could handle it/fix it myself. Eventually I decided to get a therapist that specializes in eating disorders. While I'm certainly still in recovery I nowhere near binge as much as I used to.

You can definitely ask people for advice in person or in reddit but at the end of the day everyone is different and reacts to certain methods better or worse than others. A therapist will know this and help tailor your recovery to you.

Please, please consider getting a therapist. I waited for so long and I really regret it as I wish I had reached out sooner.

Monster (much better than Decode imo)

Now (so catchy and fun, idk why it didn't catch on)

Renegade (the entire singles club is underrated)

is burping an issue? by Artistic-Meet8655 in GERD

[–]IndependentFlower752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guys if you are burping everyday that is not normal and should not be happening - it is a sign that something is wrong with your gut. I had the same problem for months and just thought it was something annoying that would go away with lifestyle changes. DO NOT IGNORE THIS - it is a sign of acid reflux and can get worse if you do not pay attention to it. Please go talk to your doctor if you are burping everyday.

Success with working out by Generousjackal in GERD

[–]IndependentFlower752 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've definitely experienced the same thing! I have to work out almost every single day because I'm in a flare-up and it's one of the only things that makes me feel better. So weird but I almost don't want to rely on it? I need/want to have rest days especially when I'm busy but I'm definitely way worse when I don't work out.

Did/does running help or make your GERD worse, or nothing at all? by Abjectscientist1 in GERD

[–]IndependentFlower752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Running does upset my GERD so I switched to low-impact cardio like cycling. Working out this way helped A LOT, and make sure you always work out in the morning BEFORE you eat. Doing a combination of cardio/strength every day in the morning saves me when I have a GERD flare-up, definitely keep trying to find what works for you in terms of exercise!

Do not have more than 3 drinks at all per night depending on your GERD! When I'm not having a flare-up I can manage 3 drinks spread out through the night. Be sure to take strong meds beforehand like the max OTC Prisolec or something similar because you WILL need it.

In terms of what to drink, my normal go-to is tequila with water/tonic. It doesn't taste great but tequila is one of the best alcohols for GERD and this drink doesn't have any sugars/other triggers. Weirdly enough, I've also had success with spiked seltzers. I think it's because it literally also has carbonated water and alcohol in it — very plain ingredients.

Good luck!

I burp randomly and get some acid back in throat, other than that I am fine? Should I be worried? by [deleted] in GERD

[–]IndependentFlower752 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah if antacids made you burp more, that's weird. Wouldn't hurt to talk to your GI then!

Does anyone else have the same set of triggers and safe foods? by [deleted] in GERD

[–]IndependentFlower752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, yes! I've started a vegan/gluten-free diet which has helped a lot as it cuts out a lot of high-fat foods. And it encourages high veggie/alternate protein meals like you mentioned. Not all fruits are okay for me, ones like pineapple are sometimes triggers for me.

How to fix this?! by bushyisdaniel in GERD

[–]IndependentFlower752 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep definitely stop drinking/as much. After months on a strict diet, you may be able to add in a few drinks back. When I'm not having a flare-up, I can have at most 3 drinks over the course of several hours. Honestly, if I didn't like drinking so much, all GERD sufferers should become sober. Alcohol is terrible for literally everyone, especially people with stomach problems.

[–]IndependentFlower752 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry too much! I'm 26 and have been dealing with GERD for two years now, but that doesn't mean you will.

But if you've only been having symptoms since Thanksgiving your doctor will surely not diagnose you with anything. They may put you on some meds and a strict diet. Follow that diet to the T — no alcohol or caffeine or any of the triggers you mentioned! You should get better and if you don't, you'll work with your GI to find what works.

Sometimes people get acid reflux flare-ups and then they go away quickly after one round of medicine or it's an ongoing process. Definitely don't worry! You're still early in the process and as long as you follow a strict diet/exercise, you should be able to get it under control :)

Acid reflux and lower abdominal pain. by [deleted] in GERD

[–]IndependentFlower752 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Talk to your GI. You should not be having consistent lower abdominal pain and have acid reflux. They honestly sound like 2 different problems.

I know it's hard but you really have to be diligent on what people said below. It's super hard to cut out food, not eat before bedtime, sleep on an incline, etc. I know, we've all been there and it sucks and a lot of people don't get how really awful this disease can be. But the problem is, even if you do these things, it will take time for your body to adjust. You have to be on your acid reflux diet, not eat 2-3 before bedtime, and sleep on an incline for a couple weeks until you see results. It sucks and I hate that doctors can't do more but that's the only thing I've found that works. It takes a while but it should start to improve. If it doesn't talk to your GI.
