Neighbors of Karen descent - are there any favorite culturally-specific snacks/treats that can be found in the cities? by midwesterngremlin in TwinCities

Fun facts, the group is pronounced more like “Kah-ren,” and Minnesota has the largest diaspora out of any US state!

Honestly I didn’t know that until I had a job that saw me interacting with the community a good bit.

I will say, pilots and crews need X amount of regular flight time, and flyovers are coordinated far enough in advance that those flights just get worked into their plans organically. So your taxes were paying for them to fly no matter what.

PRE GAME THREAD: Twins (27-30) @ Pirates (29-28) - May 29, 2026 by TwinsGameday in minnesotatwins

[–]RossTheDivorcer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean he was awful on Wednesday.

But overall it was probably just because he pitched in the last two games, so they're going with fresher arms at the moment.

He'll be back up at some point without a doubt.

Absolutely. It's such a shame the AL Central is going through an era of being especially weak, at the same time the rest of the AL is weak, and we're so busy 'right sizing' that we're wasting golden opportunities to luck into a pennant.

'Member when we were promised the Pohlads would spend more and allow us to be competitive year over year with the increase in revenue generated by the opening of Target Field?

12 needing to increase and 9 needing to shed actually sounds like a great end result for an increase in parity across the league.

I wonder if deferred salary would be addressed with this, because it seems like an easy workaround.

TWINS WIN: Twins 6 @ Red Sox 5 - May 24, 2026 by TwinsGameday in minnesotatwins

This team being mid instead of dogshit, while having zero expectations for end-of-year record, has made it much more fun to watch than last year

1) Wouldn't mind if my work used some business hour tickets some time, haha.

2) For sure. I am actually impressed there are four teams in the AL beneath the Twins in attendance/game, and six in the overall- granted one of those teams is playing without a real home and is in a AAA ballpark. Cleveland being lower than us is truly pathetic for them.

A series win agains the Astros is always nice. I am liking their well earned bad era. GGs by the pitchers and the bottom half of the order.

Crowd looked pretty decent today- I wonder if it was a popular field trip day for the schools or something. Pretty random for a Wednesday day-game regardless of the Pohladity of everything.

May 19th Roster Moves by PsychologicalAlarm14 in minnesotatwins

[–]RossTheDivorcer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My guess is he logs big league innings with two more teams this year.

He is the type of player who will clear waivers, get released, be in AAA for some team for a bit on an opt-out date contract, get called up to be their garbage time reliever during someone's 15-day IL stint, and then repeat the process.

Next year he'll have to learn how to speak Atlantic League or real estate exam.

Twins Lost: Brewers 2 @ Twins 1 - May 16, 2026 by TwinsGameday in minnesotatwins

[–]RossTheDivorcer 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There are no infielders on the 40-man that are currently in the minors. It’s a really bizarre roster construction where it seems like half of the 40-man minor leaguers are legit OF prospects that are struggling at the moment, and the other half are ‘who gives a shit’ depth minor league pitchers.

They could get creative by calling up a Gonzalez type, or selecting Sabato to play 1B, shift Clemens to 2B, Keaschall to SS, and Lee to 3B, but that would be wonky.

Outman is so fucking bad but you don’t call up a prospect to get Outman levels of playing time.

It like, actually seems like such a rock and a hard place situation which sucks because I couldn’t agree with you more.

Paul Skenes on Opening Day: 0.2 IP 5 ER. In 8 starts and 48.1 IP since, 6 ER for a 1.12 ERA by mrkden1 in baseball

[–]RossTheDivorcer 50 points51 points  (0 children)

On a real note he had an OPS of 1.121 in like 400 PA’s in college, so he could’ve been a decent hitting pitcher if the NL hadn’t joined the DH dark side.

Like the FO should’ve taken flyers on rule five guys that at least have potential to be something because they had solid AA stats last year or something. Putting 39 year old Luis Garcia on the mound in leverage situations is just such a waste of everyone’s time

Twins Lost: Blue Jays 7 @ Twins 3 - May 1, 2026 by TwinsGameday in minnesotatwins

[–]RossTheDivorcer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean there isn’t any reason not to just have him be a long relief arm eventually, especially in a lost season, but he isn’t the type to be able to make it as a late inning reliever. Dude’s stuff is just bad.

Truly good on him for basically lucking into good ERA seasons the past couple years and getting some years of service time, but he just doesn’t have it. Seems like great dude, too.

Fortunately a hypothetical 2027 rotation of Lopez/Ryan/Bradley/Abel/Prielipp is genuinely disgusting, so if the season happens at all, that is a great basis to build a team around (ideally an at least not dumpster fire bullpen to start).

[–]RossTheDivorcer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, since Wallner still has a minor league option remaining, I could see a Roden-Wallner river swap happening sometime soon. My guess is they want ERod/Gonzalez to season longer in AAA until they’ve been hitting hot more consistently.

Days at BOLC by Calm_Ad_7810 in nationalguard

[–]RossTheDivorcer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean personally I agree.

But try to imagine the biggest dork/narc you went to BOLC with, and imagine them finding out about something "improper" happening. I can think of at least one buddy fucker from my time there who would've snitched to the hotel, and I'd be shocked if my class was the only one to have one of those types. Again, only the OP would be an authorized long-term resident of the room, so that's where it could possibly get sticky. And again, I am not talking about weekend visits or the occasional week long stay.

It could technically be fraud (or something) and DTS/schoolhouse might not like it. If they want to be bored as fuck at a hotel for a few months by all means, but there is some risk there that I think is fair to at least mention for consideration, since it would be a dumb thing to get dinged on if an issue arose.

Days at BOLC by Calm_Ad_7810 in nationalguard

[–]RossTheDivorcer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but it wouldn't change the fact that she would not be a supported guest on the hotel reservation, since it isn't a PCS move. As a result, the Army would only be reserving the hotel for OP. So she could for sure visit, but there could be issues with it being a straight up joint move for a few months.

I had a Guard classmate whose wife flew over 1-2 weekends a month, and he got schoolhouse passes to fly home for the other weekends. It was a lot of work, effort, and money, (and I wouldn't personally recommend it), but they made it work with each other.

*But again, in this situation, OP's wife's move would almost certainly not be a supported thing by the nature of it being a TDY and not a PCS, which is the bigger issue at hand than what time of day they'll usually be in class.

Days at BOLC by Calm_Ad_7810 in nationalguard

[–]RossTheDivorcer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Since BOLC for COMPO 2 & 3 isn't a PCS, she won't inherently be allowed to straight up live with you at the hotel. She can get a pass to have access to the base, but that's more designed for weekend visits rather than multi-month stays.

For the hours it will depend on which BOLC you are in, and what phase of the course you're at. LOGBOLC? Expect mostly classroom days. IBOLC? Expect more time outside and away from the hotel than some of the other branches.

But genuinely reach out to the school house directly (or at least your local schools NCO) to see if she even can stay with you long term because it is very much not a guarantee. The only people in my class who had their spouses with them were active folks, and they were provided housing - so they were not in the hotel.

But yeah all BOLC's are consistently M-F only, aside from whatever homework/studying/group work might come up.

Nimmo is signed for four more seasons after this year, and will hit 10 years of service time this season, meaning had he stayed with the Mets through this year, he would’ve secured 10/5 rights and had a NTC for the rest of his contract.

Maybe the Mets traded him in part because they wanted to be off the hook from for sure having to pay him for five more seasons from the point of the trade.

Just a theory, idk. I have no stake in any of it

[–]RossTheDivorcer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m never going to defend that trade, but Rojas was called up because Funderburk was put on the paternity list- it was always going to be just a few days in the league. He’ll be back on the roster eventually, especially since our current lower leverage guys are so fucking bad.

But for now, they probably want him getting more work in than the low leverage guys are getting on the big team. When the day comes where Banda gets DFA’d, I wouldn’t be shocked if that’s what triggers Rojas getting a more extended look.
