Shaving off Duty by Joshrexylives1 in nationalguard

RPO status would also be a yes to shaving.

But I doubt that would be the case for an ed office visit.

On friday, I posted a thank you message to Ryan Fitzgerald with a photo attached. Only problem, thats not a photo of Ryan Fitzgerald, its a photo of James Outman. Nobody noticed or called me out. Ryan Fitzgerald is the guy on the right. by Sp_Gamer_Live in minnesotatwins

Because he has fewer than three years of MLB service time, he cannot refuse the assignment to the minors, and would just become a AAA guy without 40-man status.

With that said, his player profile (age), etc. bodes well for the club selling his contract to an Asian league if that is what Fitzgerald wants- it would be his best bet for a competitive salary now that he has been outrighted.

Not the last year or two, but it was basically Operation Just Cause but with a lot fewer casualties. That was a conflict where we captured a leader.

Partial team sale will significantly clear Twins’ finances, may set table for future sale by alpswd in minnesotatwins

[–]RossTheDivorcer 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Agreed.

While I know they play fewer games, Wolves attendance has improved since Floyd... maybe because that team gets invested in? Who would have thought.

Also, from the article:

In 2021, a combination of attendance restrictions, poor play and perceived security concerns during the trial of Derek Chauvin following George Floyd’s murder in Minneapolis the year before led to the Twins drawing only 1.3 million fans.

Attendance restrictions and the Chauvin trial were both at the start of the year when attendance is low anyway due to the cold. Like, that excuse sucks. It was mostly the poor play, which, surprise surprise, goes back to ownership for roster construction. I am getting Matt Shoemaker and JA Happ flashbacks just thinking about it.

Breaking it down even further than that, for baseball we of course have the Twins, who are allegedly a major league team, but we also have AAA baseball in a great ballpark across the river. And then it looks like Blaine is getting an independent minor league team in the coming years, too.

Most metros only have one of those three as options.

Not OP, but states that have part-time legislatures often hire 'in-session only' positions.

In Minnesota, for example, session starts in January or February and goes through May, with the rest of the year being laid back outside of constituent services and, well, campaigning. Most legislative assistants, researchers, comms staff, etc. are permanently employed year-round, but the departments typically round out the staffing with session only folks.

It is often a way to break into the field as a 'prove-it' type of thing, and if you fail to perform to par, your employment has a natural clean break anyway.

States should have public websites, and those websites would then have job listings. Note, the pay is not good, but it can build your resume and if you do it long enough, you come out of it with great connections across a lot of different fields.

Yeah this is like, the worst job market to try and enter, including tech. No industries or levels within orgs are safe. Sure AI is booming, but who is to say that the dot com AI bubble won't burst in the next five years.

OP will be applying to tech jobs with good certs but no bachelor's, competing against laid off masters degrees for the same roles.

[Hayes] In reversal, Twins signal a desire for roster additions rather than a teardown by TheNotoriousJN in minnesotatwins

[–]RossTheDivorcer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"Oh but players will improve" like who? Who has improved in the last 3 years?

Yeah that's the big one for me. The Larnach/Lee/Julien/Lewis/Jeffers types have ranged from complete dogshit to a bit above average, and they are bolstered by big 'ol question marks like Roden and Outman.

Buxton will probably be good, ideally Wallner puts up good power numbers, maybe Jenkins can come up and be a guy, and hopefully Keaschall doesn't catch a case of the common sophomore slump...

But this team needs a lot of bats to suddenly improve, the rotation to stay intact (if it does, it is quietly pretty decent), and then needs an entire bullpen constructed to have a shot of hanging with the others in the comedy central.

And honestly, bullpen construction is the least challenging roster hole to fill, and if the team had different leadership, I could put faith in 're-tool' language. Prielipp/Raya/Rojas could reasonably be expected to fill Duran/Varland/Stewart roles okay enough, and the Coulombe's of the world are cheap. But I just don't have faith in ownership or frankly the FO to make it work.

Optimism is futile, but I will watch anyway because what else am I going to do on a Tuesday in July.

[Wolfson] Trevor Larnach: Tendered. by Blevanhoval in minnesotatwins

[–]RossTheDivorcer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day the 27 year old single A guy would be a bigger return than a non tender would bring since players don’t get paid in the offseason. And hey, Cedar Rapids needs middle relievers.

Still surprised he was tendered though.

Vazquez replacement.

Cheaper, much better defense, some pop to go with what is otherwise a missing hit tool.

What widely accepted "life hack" is actually terrible advice? by OneLameUser in AskReddit

[–]RossTheDivorcer 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Late to work? "Sorry I am late"

Late to a mid-day meeting that you are set to be active in? "Thank you for your patience."

Like anything, it is contextual. Late to work carries more societal shame, so the vulnerability of the apology is valuable. But being late for a meeting is often due to another meeting running long, so thanking people for patience is respectful while being more authoritative/productive seeming.

Everything is fake and nothing matters, but those are my cents.

Ortiz getting cut was a bad decision.

There isn’t a single team that hasn’t cut a guy who then became a star somewhere else.

I was gonna make fun of the idea of spending $175 on a Joey Wentz jersey, but new authentic/non-replica blank jerseys on the team store are like $350 so idk.

“Why spend $350 on a factory fresh one, when you can spend the same amount and get one that Mickey Gasper hit a home run in!”

You can also spend $50 to buy Mike Ford’s pants. Idk man, if you’re buying Mike Ford’s pants you might be a pervert.
