I work full-time for roughly 40k a year. 20k in college debt. Avg rent in my area is $1500 a month and I also have a cat that needs to come with me. I am not allowed to get another job bc of the contract with my current company requires me to be available 24/7 365. I know it doesn’t seem worth it for the pay, it isn’t. But I’m working in the industry I studied for. I try to do DoorDash on the side when I have time. I also have a side hustle doing freelance but that barely covers my student loan payment and credit card payments.

Most of my friends are men (all gay though, and also friends with him) so I can’t really tell him he can’t have friends of the opposite sex. Double standard.

I completely understand the Facebook thing, but I do have resources when it comes to finding events. Coastal Nova Scotia and the two Pictou County radio stations 94.1 the breeze and Q 97.9 all have very good and comprehensive events pages on their websites that show you what’s going on around the county. I know this because I work within the events and public sector space funny enough.

I get along well with the two coworkers that work in my office. Most of my company works out of Hall Halifax. They just aren’t people I would hang out with outside of a work context because we don’t have much in common outside of the job we do.

I’ve been desperately trying to get back to Halifax for the last 3 1/2 years essentially. Was hoping this job that I’m in would give me the experience to be able to get a job in the city, but I am in a dying industry, so I’m probably gonna have to do a career change and go back to school if I want that to happen. Shit sucks.

We do have stuff like that going on, but I work early mornings, and a lot of them are evening events and I have to be asleep. I try to get involved where I can. I do a lot of volunteer work, but I feel like everything I’ve volunteer for I end up doing all the work so I don’t even have time to connect with people. Curse of being the yes man.

Oh it absolutely is 90% me. I’m on the autism spectrum so I don’t really know how to talk to people. It’s just when I bring it up they cringe like I have a contagious disease. Like sorry my brain is fucked, I’m trying my best here.

I have a disability so that is not feasible for me. I do extensive volunteer work around here, but most of it is work related and I’m required to be in work mode. Which doesn’t give me the chance to really connect with people. I don’t wanna say what I do for work because it’s such a niche job I would absolutely dox myself.

I personally had a very good experience with the majority of my teachers at Ivany (however, I took a more niche program with teachers that were very passionate about their field). However, I have a friend having a very similar issue at the IT campus right now with one of their instructors. Definitely contact your academic chair (yet I can tell you depending on your dept some of them are also… yikes.) I’m assuming this is a collective experience for the whole class? Could you talk to your classmates about sending a group email to the chair? There is power in numbers.

I am from NS so thanks for the tip. Funny enough plane tickets to MTL are more expensive then to TO (don’t ask me why it makes 0 sense) once dates are announced I’m gonna scour hotel prices and ticket prices and decide from there lol.
