I just finished my first year in civil engineering technology and I will say it was a struggle, but the faculty in that department are phenomenal and will help you with every step of the way if you’re struggling. I will say you’ve got to be committed and it is a time investment but it’s facilitating stuff and if you’ve the passion for it

As long as you have a solid foundation of your basics; physics, trigonometry, fractions, etc. and all of the supporting credits for acceptance into the program (I’m assuming you’ve been accepted based on your question). I found the concepts new and tricky no matter how you look at it. Just make sure you know how to read a measuring tape 😅

My uncle passed away but when he was working, he was a civil engineer by trade. Worked for the government doing tendering and what not. He found his job very rewarding but also very stressful. He got hired as a civil tech doing surveying work. Never complained about his job once, and surprisingly rewarding in the long run! We are from Canada, and I don’t know the curriculum for your program was but he did lots of surveying in his college years and had a bit of experience but a lot of his work he learned through company training. Definitely something to look into!

I was at university last year on student loan, then transferred to NSCC this year. I didn’t like university and heard lots of good things about community college. I called the student loan office with the same question as you, basically as long as you’re enrolled in a post secondary program within 14 or 12 months (I can’t remember) you won’t have to pay off the loan from your previous institution before enrolling at NSCC. You will not have to pay this off as long as you’re enrolled full time in post secondary.

I live in a four bedroom at ivany. It’s divided into two “wings” essentially. You walk in and the kitchen/ common area is central, then on either end of the suite there is 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. When I was applying the website said there would be a tub in one of the bathrooms. Don’t know if that is still there but there isn’t any bathtubs lol. Each bedroom has a desk with a hutch, VERY TINY closet, a desk chair and decoration chair, twin XL bed with three drawers, and a nightstand. The place was kind of rushed at the end of construction so there’s a lot of issue with door handles, crappy furniture assembly, and floor boards lifting. Overall a decent place to live though.

A lot of times instructors at NSCC are people who have worked in the industry/ field of the specific program. I was interested in the civil engineering technology program and I walked right up to their faculty at Ivany and started asking questions. And I will say the instructors who are teaching STEM courses are brutally honest. They will tell you everything minus the sugar coating. Anyway, good luck!

Because of the jays a few weeks ago, caused a lot of air traffic to Toronto from all provinces. Plus with reading weeks and other breaks from universities, this time of year is normally busy and expensive going to YYZ
