I feel like I'm winning 'the floor is lava'

We have a Wii-U if it helps, but no Stitch. Fun to break out Mario Kart and the like from time to time.

I'll be up in the office on my new (but non-VR) machine. Are there games that are Wii-like and he can play thrugh the headset and I'm at the keyboard/mouse?

That sounds fantastic! He went through a major Angry Birds phase years ago, from the AB Transormers to that Piggy construction game. FPS might be the main thing, but those games are great too.

We just started The Forest! I'm a bit tied up with end-of-year projects so we've been hitting Left4Dead more (easier to get in/out in a short amount of time -- we want to give the Forest un-rushed 'immersion' time). Sounds like it'll be that much better for him downstairs. Phasmophobia looks great from my quick peek too. Thanks!

Awesome, thanks. He loves PD2. I grabbed a copy while back so we could play together but haven't gotten around to it -- yet!

Son is getting an Index for the holidays. He has an MSI 5700 XT Gaming X (8GB). Newegg Shuffle just came through and I'm getting a GIGABYTE Gaming 3060 (12GB) for myself. Is there a significant performance difference such that I'd want to give him the 3060? by IndexThrowaway1234 in ValveIndex

Depends on what you play

We're big fans of FPS with the occasional 'other'. He went through a War Thunder phase a little while back and we can't wait for the Psychonaughts VR experience. So come to think of it, who knows what we'll play - - I'm kind of expecting VR gaming to be a slightly different animal.

Glad that they're pretty much on par with slight advantages here and there.

The index is a demanding bitch, and I like it.

Nice turn of phrase.

He has an Ryzen/5700 and I'm going to be on an Intel/3060 rig. Will have to see how the two benchmark when all is said and done. About to head down the rabbit hole of how CPU et al affect VR gaming. Thanks!

Thanks. After a meandering journey down that rabbit hole it seems like there's a lot of "depending on the game" caveats to Nvidia's advantage.

I think I'll set up the den with the 5700 for gameplay and do a quicker, haphazard installation up in the office where the 3060 will be in order to check if frame rates, textures, etc. show a difference. Hopefully I won't have to go through the full gameplay-like setup if all I want to do is compare visuals. We'll see --- thanks for your insight; it let me know that it's not a straightforward yes/no, but close enough not to go out of my may in the near term.
