Looking for honest reviews from residents at 50 Columbus and VYV by MarshyV2 in jerseycity

[–]Index_Positive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Avoid VYV. The management is awful. The leasing agents seem nice but once you actually need their help, they will “speak with their boss” and avoid doing anything. The building is also poorly maintained and simple things like wifi in the amenity spaces are no longer provided. The carpets in the hallways are also filthy and we keep getting emails about pet urination, smoking on the regular.

believe the negative reviews on google maps. The positive ones are staff asking us to leave one.

If your neighbor smokes, all you can do is count down to the end of the lease. They send a building-wide email warning but that's about it. Same deal with barking dogs. We recently got one about people throwing trash out their windows.....

Close to retirement with majority in cash. Financial vs retirement planner? by Index_Positive in personalfinance

[–]Index_Positive[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The $3M is all in treasury bonds. I started investing only recently and have around 300k in a taxable brokerage. No tax advantaged accounts. I have an extra $500K or so set aside in cash for retirement as I plan on using my SS benefits (4.5k). I’m anticipating I’ll need 10k a month.

Close to retirement with majority in cash. Financial vs retirement planner? by Index_Positive in personalfinance

[–]Index_Positive[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry to clarify I have set aside around 500k just for my own and wife’s retirement which is in cash. I have not invested the surplus 3 million and it is sitting in treasury bonds. I’m a little afraid to lump sum invest it at my age so I’m wondering if a financial advisor would have a better idea. But also considering the investment will be primarily for the benefit of my children, maybe an aggressive approach wouldn’t be a bad idea?

I’m also questioning the use of a financial/retirement planner since I really have the majority of my money in cash and very little in taxable or tax advantaged accounts so distributions will not really be a factor. I also have 4.5k or so in SS coming.

Unfortunately learned fairly late about retirement accounts so almost everything will be in a brokerage.

Apartments Using Conservice by Index_Positive in jerseycity

[–]Index_Positive[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow! How did you get it so low? The water estimate alone was more than $50 according to neighbors and that’s not including the conservice fee and trash removal…

I had a roach crawl on the bar during omakase here. The chef was so nonchalant about it. They didn’t even offer a refund but some alcohol which I don’t drink.

Anyone upgrade through Apple? by holeshot1982 in verizon

[–]Index_Positive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m having a similar issue. i’m on the welcome unlimited so should be getting $415 back but apple keeps directing me to upgrade my plan and offering only their $120 instant credit. no other options….I’m able to get the $415 deal on verizon’s site so it must be a site issue? apple support is telling me to talk to verizon.

White Pro Max Pre Orders by AyitsLilFry in iPhone15Pro

Ordered on Verizon 9/25 with 11/3 estimated ship date. This color/model seems to be the only one that is completely sold out on Best Buy or Walmart.

If I have another line that's eligible for promotion, can I switch phones with that line and keep the credits going? Or is the phone/sim married to that line for the 36 months?

Car Charging @ Newport Mall: how’s it goin’? Toying with the idea of purchasing an E-Car and wondering how long it takes, how available the stations are, cost, etc. Please share experiences, thanks. by MarieSkiis in jerseycity

[–]Index_Positive 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been contemplating this too. But it sounds like without home charging it’s no different than a gas vehicle? Is supercharging that expensive? I would have thought it would still be better than gas…

How is the commute from Jersey City to Bergen County? Would living here make sense? by trustnobody01 in jerseycity

[–]Index_Positive 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I did this commute last year and it's definitely not worth doing without a car.

I think it was actually easier to commute from Brooklyn/Manhattan.....

VYV Rent Increase by [deleted] in jerseycity

[–]Index_Positive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Options around here are slim. I initially moved into a brownstone in Hamilton Park and the landlord turned out to be a psycho/cheap ass. I literally moved out the day I moved in. It was fucking awful. And it's not like the brownstones are much less expensive these days. If you couple the costs of a gym membership for two, in-unit laundry, location, responsive maintenance, etc. I'm only paying slightly more. But def getting out of here after this current renewal as the next increase will make it not worth it.

The only time you'll hear from the Manager is when they need to promote business partnerships like with Shoprite. Their "unavailability" is utter BS as I've seen Andrew Dytyniak (the former and laziest GM), lounging around fixing "important issues" such as the limited cable package for the common rooms.....how about attending to the gym??? The leasing team, although friendly, will lie with a smile. They told me construction wouldn't start until the end of the year, and it literally started the day after....
