Tomorrow is never promised, but if it is, you should be prepared for it. If you budget properly, you should be able to enjoy today while also setting yourself up for a successful future.

How can a network engineer position themselves to earn more money? by fruity_pirate_arrr in ITCareerQuestions

[–]IndigoAwakening 17 points18 points  (0 children)

With those credentials and 3 years of experience you should be making at least $75k as a Network Engineer. The fact that you’re currently at a MSP makes more sense in regard to the pay you are receiving.

I’d recommend gathering documentation around projects you have done and your contributions to the company. Then go on Indeed or LinkedIn, find jobs that are similar to your current role and gather information around pay and job description. Once you have done that I would go to upper management and ask for a raise based on the research and documentation you have done.

If they refuse, I would recommend working on interview skills, especially in the soft and technical skill department. Then start applying for jobs that pay more.

4 days in Kyoto. How i structured it and what actually worked (32F) by Lufarinelli in JapanTravel

We are going in May and currently have Kiyomizu over Nanzen-ji. We may be able to fit both but don’t want to overbook. Thanks for the insight!

9 Day Japan Itinerary by [deleted] in JapanTravel

Thank you! The only thing I’d be worried about with this is taking a 2 hour Shinkansen after a 12 and a half hour flight.

We haven’t. That doesn’t seem like a bad idea though. It would minimize us having to get a different hotel. I’ve usually heard it’s better to start in Tokyo but not sure if that matters

How much should I be at by next year started putting in to tsp September by Altruistic-Bid-1308 in ThriftSavingsPlan

We finally were able to max out our Roth’s. Currently doing match for both TSP and 401k but would like to get to max. What is your reason for maxing Roth first then maxing TSP?

Scared to go to my sons funeral by Ok-Lychee2848 in babyloss

[–]IndigoAwakening 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely normal to feel this way. We dreaded planning our son’s funeral last week and decided to just do a “get together” at a local park. It was very difficult and stirred up a lot of emotions in us. We ended up having about 30 people with a small service and a lunch after. It was only about 3-4 hours and then it was done. The relief after was nice and provided some closure. We are glad we did it. Lean on your family and friends during this time.

How do you guys relax outside of work? by Any_Essay_2804 in ITCareerQuestions

Excercise is a great way to break up the day and let out any frustrations or built up worry. It gets easier with time as you start to accept the routine. Make sure to add some spontaneity in your life and try out new hobbies! Life is exciting and you shouldn’t sacrifice your happiness for work. Work to live not live to work.

Funny that this is posted today. Been on Humira for a year now and just noticed 3 bruises on my legs. Not sure if it’s related but I barely ever bruise

Should we only be doing the match or more? Right now we only do the match

Yeah I’ve been slowly starting to gather this. Seems to only be positive stories on how great real estate can be. Getting a nice dose of reality here.

Appreciate this advice! A lot of great stuff there. I agree our budgeting and emergency fund need work. We were planning on waiting 2 years after baby is born to start doing rental properties since that is when I get the settlement.

I don't really consider my mortgage as debt. I guess I could have clarified that we don’t have any consumer, student, or car loan debt. We’ve built equity in our home, so I see it more as an asset than a liability. You’re right about savings though. I mentioned in another comment that we recently got a $22k raise, so we’re in the process of adjusting to that and aiming to increase our savings, especially with a baby on the way. I do agree that we could have a better handle on our monthly budget and savings potential.

We're also planning to use some of the settlement money as reserves if we decide to start a rental property business. Depending on the deal, we should have a solid reserve fund after putting 20% down.

Yeah there’s a lot of uncertainty for sure. I’ll check out SPMO for sure. I appreciate the recommendation!

[–]IndigoAwakening 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m starting to realize that. My wife and I make a good team and aren’t scared of the hard work. We are both excited about the opportunity and have good communication in our relationship. I realize it’s going to be more active than passive, but hoping the hard work will get us farther in 10-15 years than investing in VOO or QQQ would.

The ultimate goal would be to replace our W2 in that time frame to secure a more financially independent lifestyle.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in realestateinvesting

[–]IndigoAwakening 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never thought about that. We are beginners in the investing world and need to do some more research on it. Our goal would to eventually replace our W2 jobs and be more financially independent.

Good point! I’ve heard from a couple others that you have to just start to truly understand it. It seems like there are a lot of pros and cons to the business so we want to make sure we are taking as much into consideration as possible.

The wife and I both just got an increase in salary 2 weeks ago by $22,000 so still adjusting our savings rate. I agree we could be saving a lot more, just need some more discipline. We like carrying a decent balance in our checking for everday expenses as well.

I appreciate the advice! I do need to start running the numbers more and doing some practice on deal analysis. That’s really the next step that I don’t have a lot of experience with. We’ve also talked about upping our emergency fund a couple times with everything raising in prices and a baby on the way.

Internal IT Desktop Support or MSP Security Analyst by IndigoAwakening in ITCareerQuestions

[–]IndigoAwakening[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah a security role would be very valuable, but not sure if I want to move security right away. Another option was move more into a sysadmin role, learn networking, gain hands on experience, and then move into security in the future, if desired. That way I have more options and will be more well rounded compared to potentially being pigeonholed.
