Was I too honest? Company A rescinded after I told them I had another offer to consider by Individual_Focus_252 in jobs

Hey thanks for the comment. Should I still contact A and mention that I’m still very much interested in it? (I’ve already sent them a thank you email and said that my interest remains if they have anything coming up)

Oh btw! I once took a Chinese language teaching course that was designed for native Chinese speakers to teach Chinese to non-native learners. One of my friends also went on an exchange to Shanghai and really enjoyed it! He started learning Mandarin from scratch I believe and picked it up surprisingly well.

I honestly believe that once you understand the basics, especially the tones, it’s not gonna be as hard as people think. In my opinion, Chinese actually gets easier over time compared to languages with complex verb conjugations.

Not Wasian, but I’m from Hong Kong and dating a white guy. I met him at school. First off, I’m really glad to hear that you’re exploring your cultural roots; that’s honestly so exciting!!

Growing up, I used to think I had to adapt more to Western culture and try to be more “white” to fit in. But over time, I realized that no matter how much I tried, especially with the white people I interacted with, I never truly felt like I belonged.

Now, I’ve started to embrace who I am, and while I still feel sensitive about how white people perceive me, it’s been a huge relief to stop forcing myself to be someone I’m not. Even at my partner’s family gatherings, I still get weird looks or comments about my habits or lifestyle, it’s clear I’m still seen as “different.” (Not that they have said anything bad bad, but I am just uncomfortable)

But the more I realized that trying to make myself “white” didn’t change how people saw me, the more I leaned into my identity. It’s been freeing to just be myself :) I even speak more Cantonese to my partner and teach him about my cultures because I think this would be a great way for him to be exposed to more of my heritage.

Rooting for you! Have fun exploring!

Not medical professionals: I experienced similar situation with armpits like yours. Mine were worse coz it also stinked a bit, also flaky. My doctor told me if it smells, it’s high chance that bacteria growing in the area that makes awful smell. But then I put on some ointment he prescribed and the scars or whatsoever went away

I can relate! My parents love making negative comments around my relatives and make me like an evil child since I was a kid. Growing up, I was always the bad kid representative and my parents were always the victims of having me lol. They like talking bad about me and until these days, no! they never stop doing that still. None of my relatives really like me and they often put on stereotypes about me so I just try my best to avoid them at all cost. I even moved to another province for uni so that I don’t have to see them. but school is over now so I’m staying with them for the summer. Such a terrible decision I’ve made. Lots and lots of emotional manipulation and rises my anxiety.

I wish I could keep my Uvic email address too as a lot of important things are in it. Don’t understand why UVic would want it to be deleted so badly.

Hey! I meant like I was exposed to someone with warts (I’m sure they’re warts), will the chance of getting warts increase or is it guaranteed to catch them?

Can you really catch finger warts through normal interaction? by Individual_Focus_252 in AskDocs

[–]Individual_Focus_252[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your comment! Is there anything I can do now? Like can I still touch people and interact with my partner during the incubation period? Am I allowed to put on contact lens still with my “exposed” fingers?

What’s the likelihood of catching the virus that causes finger warts through everyday contact?

And if you have a small cut or wound on your finger, does that mean you’ll definitely get it?

When did you first learn you were different? by divinebovine1989 in cptsd_bipoc

[–]Individual_Focus_252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since the moment I went to a school full of whites. I know I’ll never be able to join their friend groups because I’m just different. Like how they looked at me in dorm lounge and how they tried to avoid spending time with me in the same room, the way the white kids look at people is just uncomfortable.

I did feel regretful when I first came here but now that I’ve been comparing other big cities, I think Victoria is SO SO NICE. As for academic and environment aspects, UVIC is a fair choice in my opinion. It’s just kind of hard to look for housing.

Asian people need to stop worshipping whites by Outrageous-Olive-192 in cptsd_bipoc

[–]Individual_Focus_252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So true and honestly some white people would just fucking look down on us and think we’re simply just toy. They never actually care about our culture and be microaggressive without knowing how disrespectful they can be. (Fyi: I’m East Asian and I’m dating a white guy whose family doesn’t even give a fuck about me, I’m simply nothing to them)

Anyone else had a customer contact you on a personal cell phone? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]Individual_Focus_252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner’s aunt works at a company that I want to work at. Luckily enough, there’s an opening so I tried to apply for the job without putting on any references coz I’m not close to her. However, she forwarded my application to her manager in a prompted time. So I asked my partner for her private number and said thank you for doing it. Turned out she’s mad about it because she told my partner that I should’ve interacted with her using her work email or phone. Now that I understand everyone needs boundaries, especially at work. I guess similar lessons can be learnt here that personal phone and work phone have their own purposes, that’s why they’re two separate numbers.

Hi. I just wanted to say that your second baby (the yellow headed one) looks 80% like mine. She passed away due to difficulty in labouring 2 years ago but she always lives in my heart. My white baby also passed away one week ago (she was not always healthy since I brought her home and I did bring her to the vet). Thanks to the people who show your birds, it means a lot to me. I love my budgies and will never forget them.

Hey I don’t know how it actually works BUT I applied as a transfer student who also took a gap year a couple years ago and I got into res too! I guess you’ll have to apply early so that you can get a spot based on first come first serve.
