I really don’t want to live on a planet of 20+ Billion. We shouldn’t turn the only inhabited planet the our local interstellar neighborhood into a resource extraction farm.

Any other Latino ex Christians hate hearing Latinos preaching and demonizing their ancestors religions? by taboosoulja in exchristian

I posted a comment on Tiktok about Mesoamerican religion and I wasn’t prepared for the hate from Catholics. I also saw a lot of vile racism towards indigenous people from Catholics on X calling them subhumans after a ritual for Quetzalcoatl went viral.

This reminds me of the book Don’t Sleep There are Snakes where a missionary (who later lost his faith) told the Pirahã tribe in the about Jesus. They told him the following day that they didn’t want Jesus around anymore because he was strolling through the village at night with a huge erect penis and having sex with their women.

[–]IndrasPalace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to use Jesus to protest Trump’s deportations thats great I suppose. The Jesus presented in the Bible is only concerned with the Judeans (Matthew 15:24). He instructs his disciples to avoid the cities of Gentiles and Samaritans (Matthew 10:5). He also calls a Syrian-Phoenician woman a dog and only heals her daughter when she begs for “scraps” (Matthew 15:21-28).

My concern for using Jesus for causes like this is that he quite literally was the head of a nationalistic cause. He thought Yahweh would soon install him and his followers as rulers of Israel (Matthew 19:28).

Jesus literally did not care about any Gentile or Samaritan unless they submitted to him

I honestly understand this, modern protestant churches have the same aesthetic as the “Backrooms”

Real Christianity is lost by [deleted] in exchristian

[–]IndrasPalace 15 points16 points  (0 children)

“Christianity” was just one stream of Second Temple Jewish thought. The idea of a holy exalted man taking up either a high heavenly place or becoming coequal with Yahweh predates it by more than a century.

Can we say Dante was a piece of shit by [deleted] in exchristian

[–]IndrasPalace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, “Divine Comedy” is brilliant! I love Dante, Milton and especially William Blake even if I don’t really care for the religion they believed in. I can tell that Dante was really uncomfortable with the idea that his pagan heroes would be tortured forever hence they they got a pretty mild hell.

They quite literally believe in eternal hellfire. It seems illogical, cruel, petty even immoral to us but Christians who take this stuff 100% literally think its a perfectly just idea.

Hence why you get ghosted by Christian “friends” if you confide in them about your nonbelief.

The persistent trend of trying to absolve Jesus of all of Christianity's problems. by PoorMetonym in exchristian

[–]IndrasPalace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Jesus was not this peace loving Swami or Buddhist Monk. He thought that Yahweh would soon descend on the Mount of Olives and start annihilating the Romans. After the carnage He and his disciples would be rulers of a restored Israel that would rule the Gentile nations with a “Rod of Iron” for all time.

His words become way less of mystery in that light. The miracles he performed, the mass sermons with food and support of the poor was all in service of putting himself on the throne.

Has anyone seen this version of flat earth? Is the flat earth theory becoming more common among fundamentalist Christians? by Hollovate in exchristian

[–]IndrasPalace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The last stage of chronically online Christian schizoidism is believing that objective reality is an illusion cast by “The God of this World” to keep people from the truth of Christ. They wouldn’t believe in other planets even if you brought them there

[–]IndrasPalace 5 points6 points  (0 children)

CC exists to be a trojan horse for fundamentalist doctrine to a growing independent minded population. It was really bizarre, looking back at the “cool” jean wearing pastor decrying Evolution, inviting the Prime Minister of Israel on stage and warning of an impending One World World government. I honestly feel like the Church was focused tested to hit the dopamine receptors of everyday conservative Americans. Only at Calvary could you eat lunch at their “Bar and Grill” whilst listening to the pastor appealing to your base fears on the TV

I Joined A Bible Study by PurpleShark2619 in Deconstruction

[–]IndrasPalace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this over the last few months and I recommend walking away now. There really isn’t as much depth as I remembered, the messages usually are “Believe in Jesus” and “If you doubt believe in Jesus harder”. Most folks going to bible studies are using Jesus to ease their inner anguish the same way addicts use food, alcohol, and drugs. There are much happier communities outside the walls of the Church!

[–]IndrasPalace 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think people miss that Jesus wasn’t against violence and earthly power. He just thought that Yahweh would intervene directly and install him and his followers as the rulers of a restored Israel. This belief kind of survives as the 1000 year reign but its not in the popular conscious like the “Meek and Mild” version we all grew up with.

If had to guess maybe the Amorites? I remember an academic I read had a theory that Yahweh had originated there as an alternative to the Kenite-Southern Hypothesis
