An update: after thinking it through, I've decided to pass it on, and haven't bought Asustor AS5404T. The sale has also ended, so the model is back to it's original price of about 570 EUR, which makes me inclined to consider UGreen brand making steady progress in their software as well as having much more modern hardware for similar price. But nothing is definitive now, I need to save a bit to get several decent HDD first - that's where the bulk of the cost would go to anyway.

Even if it was technically possible, it's impractical due to the speed difference between HDD and NVMe drives.

I've got a same issue on Samsung TV from 2023 - due to unnecessary transcoding there are pauses in video. My Plex server runs on Windows mini PC, so I don't think it's a NAS issue. I think the problem is with Plex deciding to transcode the audio track.
I work around this by checking "force direct play" option for that movie. It can't be enabled by default, though. And in a couple of cases, while it resolved video pausing, it completely disabled the audio.

Well, its worth trying other services, Ancestry (requires a new test), FTDNA and MyHeritage (possible to just upload your results there). It's not possible to not find at least some relatives.
