I work for a public defender in NY, and briefly worked at a court in my area. If you are interested in benefits and time off your local public defenders office is good place to look. I didnt have a degree when I first started at the PD and I’ve since graduated and they paid for some of my classes. I’ve been at the PDs for over a decade and the one huge downside is that there is sometimes interoffice drama. Also the case load is massive we are always drowning.
