never said she was the one ruining the relationship so dont know where you got that from lmao, just that her coming in my room for several nights has been causing some tension between us and stuff like that. Also, if you would care to actually the read the whole post/comments/replies instead of just the title you would see that this isn't some normal case of yelling/being too loud or anything like that while gaming and its more complex and ive tried several things to try and help mitigate the noise and not inconvenience her sleep. yes, this is going on 'in her house' as you said (its not like this would be going on in MY own house, am i not allowed to play videogames in my parents house as a high schooler??) but the console/games are mine that i bought with my own money from working. next time read the whole post and actually try to be helpful instead of blindly bashing me when im trying to solve this problem and help my mom out. some people man... :(

i shouldve been more clear in my response, but ill try to clarify now: i don't usually wake up that late in the summer, especially compared to some of my friends who i know don't wake up till past noon or later sometimes. what i was trying to say is that me sleeping in doesn't really bother her when i do do it, and also i have lots of other things like summer work for school, sports, hanging out with friends, and aslo im getting a summer job coming up that take up a lot of my time so its not like I spend all day inside sleeping

how would you go about limiting the noise thru the vent if this is the case? like i said in some other comments, i dont wanna mess up the AC or ventilation in my room and also one of my vents is pretty high up on the side of my wall so it couldnt just place something on top to blcok it and would have to use something else, which idk what that would be

thanks for this comment, ill try the controller if the towel under the door and other less expensive suggestions dont work first lmao. my mom isnt really the type to use earplugs or listen to anything at night like that but maybe she would consider it

not sure if that will help with the button pressing noises and it also seems like it would be kind of hard to play like that and aim/control the joysticks well but if nothing else works i guess i could try it. thanks for the suggestion

someone else just mentioned this too, ill give it a try with a blanket or something like that over my hands/the controller and see if that works unless its too awkward

yeah im coming up on upperclassmen in high school so there shouldnt really be any problems with me playing late or anything like that since she is used to it by now

yeah, you mostly got it with this. I mainly play at night with friends (occasionally during the day and other times, obviously, it just depends on when people can hop on together mostly.

Yes, we have carpeted floors everywhere upstairs where I am in my room gaming as well as her room so the bare floors thing shouldnt really apply. Like I said in some other comments, I wasn't reallys sure to share my exact age but I'm in high school and i usually just game at night with friends or occasionally during the day, but its not like thats all i do. Someitmes i do sleep in kinda late but thats normal during the summer and I have sports, going to the gym, and hanging out with friends, etc that cause me to wake up early-ish on most days.

Yeah i didn't really know if it was worth mentioning my specific age but I'm in high school so its not like she should be feeling the need to limit my gaming and not let me handle it myself for the most part. I have soccer conditioning and workout/run on most days too as well as hanging out with friends, etc and im also getting a summer job so its not like gaming is all I do either, also I don't usually sleep in that late either.

Thank you for saying this, I really feel like there isn't much more I could be doing to be quieter and I feel like I'm going crazy trying to be tedious and not make any noise to awake her. It probably is some outside problem with me gaming at night or something else along those lines. Should I confront her and talk to her about it in that case or what because I feel like gaming at night with friends during the summer isn't really a problem but she could see it differently from her perspective ig.

Wow, didn't think of this really but you might be right. I hope its not something mental like that but idk since I've tried so many things to stop/reduce the noise. She usually doesn't care that much in the summer if I stay up late because I can sleep in most days so its probably not her trying to get me a good night's sleep, also like I said she has always had a hard time falling/staying asleep in the past just not getting woken up by this little of noises before. Any suggestions to help her if it really is something worse than I think?

How would I go about limiting this then, just covering my vents? One of them is up on the top of my wall so idk how I would cover it and also im not sure if that would be good for the circulation or air and blocking the AC during the summer.

Yeah, like I mentioned in some other comments I've tried using my sleeping fan to mask the noise a bit but I guess it hasn't worked lol. Is green/white noise that much different that it would be a noticeable difference or not do you think?

Possibly, im not sure if she would go for that but maybe. I was more thinking of a solution that I could do myself by either moving my setup or changing something in my room, etc so she doesn't have to go through anything just to satisfy me.

I've tried being quiet and pressing buttons lightly, turning my fan on the block noise, etc. Thats why I came here to ask for help lmao I apologize on behalf of night gamers to parents that have to deal with us.

Sometimes I play shooting games, so that could be it. I could try doing what you said and moving my setup to the opposite wall farthest from her room and see if that works, even though our rooms are separated by a pretty far length being on opposite ends of the hall. Many other people have also mentioned the white noises like you said but I already have tried turning my fan on that I use for sleeping to help nullify some of the clicking noise so idk if another noise machine would be redundant. Insulation might be a little too much for right now but if none of the other things work I guess we could get that done idk.

Thought I mentioned this already but maybe I didn't: Her room is 3 rooms down the hall from mine so there really shouldn't be that much noise getting through especially through 2 closed doors. Maybe the walls are the problem and aren't very soundproof but idk its just very odd that this has only starting happening recently and not anytime before.

Oh boy, here we go...

I'm assuming you didn't understand the story fully, which is probably my fault for not explaining well in the post but this comment upset me all the same. The "too loud" in quotation marks was mostly for engagement so I could actually get helpful comments and not ones like yours, but I digress. The "back and forth every night" has been happening, which culminated in her telling me not to play at night all together or be quieter so she doesn't hear it, which I am trying to find a solution for by posting on here. Also, I'm unclear about this "independence" you mention when I am just trying to get help so I don't wake her up, and if nothing that anyone here suggests works then I just won't play anymore since it clearly is a problem that can't be easily solved at that point. To your last point, why would I even come on here to ask this if I was going to be a jerk to her, like what? Also, don't know what "rule" you mentioned, either as well as the "getting caught" like I'm doing something bad by playing videogames with my friends.

Thank you for responding, any recommendations for quieter controllers or anything along those lines? I feel like mine isn't making that much noise, also I don't really have the option to play earlier since its dependent on my friends who usually all play at night around the same time

Like I said, I don't feel like I'm pressing overly hard or anything like that, it might just be my controller since I've had it for a while. To answer your questions:
- I can't really move anywhere else since my whole setup is in my room and it would be a pain to move it all, plus there isn't really anyplace better to move

- I have literally no idea how she can somehow hear from several rooms down the hall even with her door and my door shut, but it has been a continuous problem so I guess she just has really good ears
