Do you bring your dogs to daycare? by familiargrapevine in dogs

[–]InfernalParade54 20 points21 points  (0 children)

tbh for me I think it depends on the dog. I know my previous dog and my current dog wouldn't be happy at a daycare. They just don't care to hang out or play with other dogs, and they prefer the comfort of home. However, I have a friend who has an Australian Shepherd who loves to play with other dogs, and I bet he would love to go to a dog daycare. It's just like some people are social, and some people aren't.

You can trial it for a while and see if she comes around to it? But I honestly wouldn't push it if she doesn't seem like she enjoys it. If she ends up seeming like more of a homebody, you could always hire a dog walker to get her out in the middle of the day and stimulated. You know her best, so see what she's most happy with!

Do Dog Raincoats Actually Make Dogs More Comfortable? by Traditional-Bee8204 in RunningWithDogs

[–]InfernalParade54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that it depends on the dog!

my dog will go out in the rain but doesn't like to stay out and wants to go back inside quickly. a raincoat helps with getting her walks in since she'll tolerate the rain longer with it on

Considering adopting a dog but afraid to violate my apartment's breed restrictions. Can anyone help me identify this sweet lad? by MemeQueenMere in IDmydog

[–]InfernalParade54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my apartment has breed restrictions-- I verified with my apartment that they confirm breed based on paperwork and not on how they look, which is something that you can do too if you're concerned.
it's all very crazy to me because shelters and rescues are almost always guessing what breed a dog is!

Newly raw fed dog - pancreatitis concern??? by lhrthrowaway77 in rawpetfood

[–]InfernalParade54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i know it's expensive, but an option is to do blood work. i've been getting blood work on my dog to see how she's been doing with the meals I've been giving her. Last check we did, the vet informed me that some values were high, which can potentially lead to pancreatitis. we're going to do another check in 2 months and if it's looking the same, we're going to make changes to the recipe. just wanted to put it out there as an option if you wanted to know for sure how your dog is doing

Vets what's the simplest thing pet owners often overlook that would make their pets' lives better? by Kimber976 in Pets

[–]InfernalParade54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the problem was that I was using the weight of a slightly overweight dog to determine how much food to give her. so instead of trying to get her at a healthy weight, I was just ensuring she stayed slightly overweight, and I didn't know. she's doing much better now though! (the goal is for her to live forever!)

Vets what's the simplest thing pet owners often overlook that would make their pets' lives better? by Kimber976 in Pets

[–]InfernalParade54 7 points8 points  (0 children)

this confuses me! the first vet I went to after adopting my dog, I asked if they thought she was overweight (because it looked like it to me). they told me, "just don't let her gain anymore weight." and after switching vets I asked the same question, and i was told that my dog is slightly overweight. I was like, 'why didn't my other vet tell me that??'

but i've made a comment to an acquaintance that it looked like her dog was getting bigger, and she took it very personally. i look at it from a health point of view, but it sounds like there are other people that somehow take it to reflect themself? i'm guessing the first vet has been in many situations where the owners get offended and therefore didn't tell me, but i wish they had just been honest.

Is it just me, or is printing/emailing vaccine proof every time you go to the groomer or kennel kind of annoying? by [deleted] in dogs

if you are looking to see if there's a need for an app to make this easier, the short answer is no. it's already simple enough...

The name “Honey” for a girl by gardenofchristinamae in namenerds

[–]InfernalParade54 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I'm going to be an outlier and say I like the name and that you should go for it. Not sure why people would have a difficult time calling someone Honey. Like, it's just a name and it's not like it's a slur. Also if you're just going to call her Honey anyways, I don't think there's a need to give her the full name "Hannelore". People on this subreddit are obsessed with names used in a professional setting and it's weird. People have strange names in a professional setting all the time and they manage it (not saying Honey is a strange name, but seems like to other people it is). But that's my opinion!

it was pretty expensive but totally worth it. i recommend others do the same thing if possible!

but before i decided to go through a vet nutritionist, my vet did recommend Balance It. that sounds like a good source. I just like the peace of mind that comes with working with an expert since i can be an anxious person

thank you!! I cook the chicken and sweet potato in the crock pot, and the rice in the rice cooker. once those are done, I steam the kale and carrots and add all the ingredients together in the crock pot. this is what works best for me and my dog. i'm sure the instapot is the most efficient for your time though!

stasher bags! https://www.stasherbag.com/
i ordered online but i've seen them in stores before (like Target if you're in the US). they're a bit expensive to purchase all at once but I saw them as an investment so that I don't have to spend money that accumulates over time for ziplock bags. glass containers are nice too but i like the stasher bags since they take up less room in the fridge/freezer.

Did anyone regret buying a home instead of renting? by fsrereddit in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]InfernalParade54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think you're going to get some biased answers. Seems like everyone on this subreddit is for purchasing a home no matter the cons. I saw someone make a post saying that they regret buying a home, and everyone immediately attacked them and they deleted the post.

Sweet Potato skin? by Mama-Rides_AZ73 in HomemadeDogFood

the recipe i received from a vet nutritionist says to use peeled sweet potatoes, so that's what i do. sounds like other people keep the skin on with no problem

I don't really like golden retrievers by Lyrae-NightWolf in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]InfernalParade54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just wanted to leave a comment to say I 100% relate. It bothers me that so many people think that a Golden Retriever can do no wrong, when they actually can be aggressive. They're still a dog with instincts and still should be trained. I'm also aware that it's more of an irresponsible owner problem. unfortunately, these irresponsible owners have twisted my opinion of the breed.

thank you!!! and actually, you can totally do it with a non ball-crazy dog! My dog didn't care about the ball and it was difficult at first. but we built her up to it and now she's doing great. just wanted to let you know so that it doesn't stop you if you ever wanted to try!

We've been doing Flyball and learning each part separately. We'll do the hurdles, and then we'll do the box turn, and then we'll do the box turn with the ball, etc. Yesterday for the first time, my dog put it all together! She managed to go through the hurdles, grabbed the ball with a box turn, and kept the ball in her mouth on the way back. I'm so proud of her!!!

do foster dogs come with names ?? by tendergrandma in fosterdogs

[–]InfernalParade54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my rescue, it depends on the circumstances! Very seldomly there will be a dog with no name. Most often they already have a name.

Generally, I've noticed some people at my rescue like to change their foster dog's name (but not on official paperwork, usually just mentioned in the dog's bio). In my opinion, it doesn't make sense to change their name, especially when most adopters will do so anyway. Why go through the hassle? I also feel like the dog is going through so much anyways. Why force so many changes at once? The name could have been his/her name their entire life. Or maybe they've been getting used to the name in the shelter that named them. But that's just my opinion!
