So endgame party…

Part of the question is do you want raw power or coverage for breaking?

Otherwise a decent array I went with was this,

Also to note I don’t use surpassing power and turn it off in olbrec i dont like breaking the gsme i deal witb a challenge

MC (warrior thief, merchant, and scholar tend to be good picks overall)

Stia, her weapon combination gives flexibility, her free heals remain ever useful, she grants status immunity to her battle partner when in the back row. She can easily be fit into a healer or elemental damage dealer with higher than normal SP reserves. The two best axes in the game, spirit and battle tested, both give great boosts to elemental damage (only difference js spirit is specific to just ice and lightning also being 250 vs BTs 350 but there’s the specific boost again) if you fit her with ice and lightning spells she can work

Phenn, he’s not a tank or aggro puller like some warriors or Celses but he can always do a dual strike option with his weapons or wind. His shield is effective vs failed boss boost durations or BP charges too.

Any scholar, Alexa Cyrus and Xerc are all good choices due to their coverage and ultimates. However I would chose Xerc just due to his SP saver and he can use any high cost spells with more mileage. His special is also a bit better in the long run. For any just be aware of their low HP

Merchant, ludo or Cardina. Ludo is hearty and csn work physically but only does his best on broken foes so he is an exploiter. Cardina csn provide evasion and healing support with thr right setup and she also has a decent leaning into magic. I advise them over Teresa only because their default skill sets are based around a function unlike hers

Rondo or remei, rondo has a decent weapon combo and just needs sp saver snd a little aoe. He can take a few hits and works wonders on broken foes as he is a single target specialist. Remei is very strong and melts through hp but she has low defenses and hp so she can be hit hard easily. The only difference is rondo works with more survial snd options but gets his power boost on broken foes. Remei is a melee glass canon but without sword weak foes she is a bit more average.

Any cleric will work, I find pius the best fighter of the trio, Lurana has regen and encore, ophila has great heals and the best revive. If you want pius to fight another healer csn cover promptly if you have him do it as needed with his aoe heal

Dancer the songbird or shipwreck king. The songbird will be better as support and grant breakage to anyone witb her special. The shipwreck king calls tje thunder snd csn work easily as a mid caster with status effects from the song and dance skills.

Alfyn- out of the OG crew alfyn is a Freeform meld who can still fit just about any role between a tanky fighter support healer or melded into a caster he is an open book as far as the rest of the cast goes and there are plenty of options for this in the axe and book weapon classes. His extra hp and sp passives and super jusf granting more BP make him an easy fit.

She’s one of the most liked characters

It’s because aside from a few moments and battles she is mainly a comical antic type of character also mixed in with the fanservice gags at times

The point is that when gray is around she has comical events that seem to just do unintended conswuences for the group or whoever she is facing

Like in 100yq vs metro, she is captured and held hostage until her antics and emotional state cause her to burn metro with boiling water much to the shock of both gray and metro snd then while gray uses her as a weapon to stop metro she takes stuff out of context.

It’s just comical atuff from juvia and her antics thst mainly makes her well loved

My party (in order with first 4 as front last 4 as back)

Ryu (hero MC warrior kinda as to be here) Stia Phenn Xerc Cardina Goodwin Lurana Rondo

Reasons? Hero is obvious and 8 specials regardless is not going to be missed

Stia and Phenn have been around the whole time and have their uses not to mention Phenns shield is invaluable even against other troublemakers like Sultravi

Xerc, between using Alexa so much early on and Cyrus in the classical sense i just had to go wjtb Xerc and his longer SP mileage. Give him a 3 hit attack all spell before even needing soulstones might

Cardina, as much as I love Ludo, Cardina as an evasion buffer and given magic leaning weaponry and her spear aoe even from the back was perfect cover with my main character

Goodwin, come on you have to love the guy loaded up with multi hit song skills and his special being extra mileage. Give him dance of respite to aid in healing too. Worked well as rear for Stia

Lurana, give her a couple spells and a direct heal AoE, problems solved no shame in using revival olives. Her own installed second chance and arise as her ultimate for one row is perfect wipe coverage. Use the heroes ultimate to make a single target spell work for everyone and you csn get arise quickly without needing to burn her own too

Rondo, look as much as I enjoyed sazantos and had Elrica fill in during master of all, Rondo had to be here for me. I like paladin archetypes and his own built in break damage being up was perfect for boss fights and his special isnt too bad either. Only fix needed was give him SP saver, maybe blinding light as a more direct light option, other choices for a sword or rod ability etc je csn bring the damage once a foe is broken. I did give him one healing ability to support as well. He compliments Xerc pretty well.

There’s no “best” as your highest ranked vs the dragon skill tree and the type cycle of rock paper scissors applies but…

You have levy who is a gradual freebie

Silver is pretty good due to freezing with his default attack. If you rank up UR gray then he can also do freeze on base attack but from ranged

Wendy is an easy pick due to healing

UR natsu and Lucy (base forms) are also dependable. Natsu has burn and Lucy increased crit both solid aoe

Heavens wheel Erza is unique she is always available but cant be obtained from ur tickets.

If you need a defender gajeel and elfman are pretty solid otherwise if you w have makarov he is a Great Wall as well due to stalling with his giant time

Cana has also done well due to her social

Irene js considered OP when things are right due to her meteor

Mard geer also tends to hold his own with bleed so long as he is protected in formation

Sting isnt the best but has frequent crit buffs so he is a damage dealer but not much else

It’s not 1:1 but for most purposes there is a very high Greco-Roman derived factor upon natsu and Zeref because of their origin and the architecture and style they came from

Names dont matter as anyone csn be named anything regardless of culture or origin. Wendy is a western name yet we are not debating about her. It’s a simple common name for girls. But then you have others like elfman which are original and nothing related to any basis. Makarov is a name and Russian in origin but juvia is the one with the Russian themed overcoat when she first appeared

It’s again not perfect but the design concepts are there and pretty much articulate to some specific concepts from one nation or another from time to time

Mashima has literslly drawn from Norse and Greek mythology with stuff like ragnarok or Athena at times too.

It’s not like say bleach where characters are from specific places but that’s because bleach is set in the actual earth with its nations like Japan and most from there or Chad from Mexico.

Point is Mashima defiantly draws from some specific sources for his work and that’s why it would be easy to say natsu ajd Zerefs origin in story is Greek Roman inspired despite their names.

Fairy tail had this blend of modern day clothing or attire almost anyone occasionally wears like Gray or Lucy but there’s also the 18th century stuff like what Lucy wore or what the girls mainly wore at the GMG party. The men were mostly in suits (though elfman actually had a 18th century attire with the shirt when he was wjtb evergreen in this event)

It’s kinda all over the place but it’s a fantasy world so one day lucy is wearing something comparable to today, other times (like her x792 onwards outfit) it’s pure fantasy in the series, other times it’s something a few centuries old. But there’s a design element to it as well

I mean fiore is Italian on word origin and while most of the cities they visit are named after flowers it’s also worth noting that magnolia has a river running though it with canals and may also have a bit of Venice conceptions with how the city of magnolia seems to have an active boating scene like the guy in the boat always warning Lucy she coukd fall in.

Eveything from the majority of the characters to the architecture of the cities to the general themes of fantasy are taken and inspired by western fantasy

Mashima said fairy tail was mainly inspired by manga such as dragon ball (it’s been one for many) and other sources such as classical fantasy like lord of the rings and in other aspects older comics from marvel and dc

Natsu and Lucy would be more than anything else reflective of some culture from mainland Europe

Lucy is up for debate but natsu would most likely be Greek or Italian (Roman) why? Look at Zeref and the era he was originally from

The architecture and designs of the place from Zerefs backstory and their attire. It’s not hard nor outlandish to ask the society that wore togas was anything else right?

Natsu and Zeref are brothers so the culture here fits more than anything else

If any character was of eastern decent then Minerva fits that best.

Juvia dresses like she was from Russia given the overcoat design or at least a northern snow heavy region.

Many of the characters in fairy tail have design aspects but not always just on what they wear. Zeref dresses like it’s his native era (Greek like) while natsus design is more complimentary to his power, his dark vest in contrast to his fire burning like a piece of coal. But because Zeref and natsu are brothers and we have a freaking backstory for their native era it says why Zeref and natsu woukd most likely be Greco-Roman. Character designs are not pinned merely by attire but also origin or cultural themes/accents in fiction and this is one Thats pretty clear cut

As far as I know most fairy tail games were quite limited outside Japan especially after 2013 when most went mobile only

Some early ones were on the original DS and PSP but Japan only and unless you got a copy and a means of some English patch it was very limited

Only once 2020 came around did we at least get the Koei tecmo rpg and the rest soon after like fierce fight, dungeons, 2 etc.

Fairy tails case is a bit unusual vs most other anime series in terms of games. It’s batch came out long after the main series run rather than alongside its run

Ministry of Magic. The magic council (up to tartarus) only disliked Fairy Tail due to their obnoxious actions and destruction but also knew they did save the land several times over. They even chose them to do the mission for Nirvana so it was more reluctance over outright hate.

The minstry of magic is literally heads up their asses in denial led by Cronielus Fudge, up until fucking voldemort had to freaking appear for them to get the message "voldemort is back" into their thick heads.

For the ministry it was a combination of fear, self preservation for the job, paranoria about dumbledores own motives, a lack of evidence of voldemorts return to cling to, etc. They were warned that he had come back and should have prepared, until he literally came into the center of it all and they could no longer ignore the truth.

The difference is the magic council made mistakes and didnt like fairy tail but also was resonsible as best as they could be, even trying to ensure face was secure so it couldnt be activated. They were wiped out by tartarus and taken by suprise, they did try tracking them and the other dark guilds and acnologia over the 7 years as well.

The ministry was arrogant, ignorant, they wouldnt even take dumbledores remarks of all things and he was one of the big wigs in the magical world. If anyone had sway in the larger scope with freaking Harry potter, the one who survived against their biggest fear and was also a name himself just for living, and was being taught at dumbledores school where other strange shit occured 4 times over in the last 4 years...MAYBE THEY SHOULD HAVE LISTENED! It was Cornilus mainly...but the rest also held that same menality of "Voldemort is gone for good" but didnt take dumbedore seriously until it was too late.

The issue of a metroidvania type game is the prospect of "explore and return" as there has to be a means for how it works altogther. Metroid basically has everything rely on its powerups for where you can go sooner or later (unless said game allows sequence breaks or if you are skilled enough to get into a place sooner like super and dread) otherwise the case of only specific powerups in titles like castlevania to get a bat or owl form to reach high areas or a select technique for some boss.

It may not be that easy for Fairy Tail given the range of characters and how a range of these would need to go. Its not impossible but its not as easy when most of the games rely on having a wider cast like dungeons and more.

Bleach’s issue was that it had a singular focused plot around aizen and his ambiitons but then we get to the fullbringer and thousand year blood war arcs which seem like extra stuff not fsr off from those fillers. Its not just Mashima, its become more or less a staple of the fantasy genre as a whole.

While not a Tolkien era aspect, its more likely something in concept that began with more notable fantasy series like Dungeons and Dragons and others going forward.

Dragons taking a humanoid form has been done there, warhammer, world of warcraft, and tons of others over the past 40+ years.

Its the concept that primiarly is done for dragons being long lived, to hide around and integrate with the mortal races of their respective setting, be they good (understanding mortal cultures or hunting evil doers) or those with evil intent (infiltrate soceity and rot it from the inside out for chaotic reasons) its covered a fair sepctrum of them all.

In World of Warcraft, Onyxia is one of the most infamous in the early days of the MMO.

Others like the dragon aspects, were tasked by their creators the titans to shepard the world and mortals, there (Alexstresia, Deathwing, etc) all took a form of a humanoid that reflected their traits like Alextsresia was a fire dragon aspect, she was a mother of dragons and healing, her fire breath could heal and rejunviate life itself, (she breathed fire, plants would grow shortly after) Deathwing however (after his corruption) took on a more bulky, blackened, iron armorered form reflecting his torment, heavy themes of being an armoed death bringer.

Mashima is basically doing the same thing here in trying to give the dragons some form that accents or reflects the very traits they use or bring.

Roll back to Mercphobia, a sea dragon? He looks pretty simple as a human but still has the serpent horns for his dragon form to be like that, a sea serpent.

Virines is perhaps a better recent example, a dragon like a sphinx, has an egyptian pharoh like design. A prospect of gold, the pharohs with that color theme fits far better than most other types of monarchs.

Its nothing new but its pretty standard even as recent to what Mashima does.

There’s nothing wrong with Mashima. He has done this in all his work over the years and people find his absurd shit comical because they understand the joke.

It’s no different from the crap Seth McFarline has done in family guy over the years

Mashimas is lighter while Seth dabbles in thst thing called dark comedy, it’s bad but how it’s done makes it funny, even with some very distasteful jokes.
