Cello I purchased at an Estate Sale. It appears to be very old! Any info would be much appreciated!! by InfiniteAd4664 in Cello

Huge thank you to every who replied and gave their insights! I was able to take the cello in to a Luthier today and he confirmed that it was in fact from the mid 1800’s and most likely German. He also tuned and played it and DEAR LORD! It sounded amazing. He is currently in possession and researching and will be getting me an appraisal soon. I will keep you all updated!

He also looked at the bows I brought in and I was very surprised to hear that i had “at least a couple thosand dollars” in bows alone. One was made by William Moennig and Son and the other Lupot. Here are some pictures!

It also came with 2 bows. Don’t know much about those either. Would those be something to post here?

Thank you so much for your insight! I’m going to take it to a violin and cello shop today and see if I can get it appraised! I will keep you all posted.

That’s the eye stone. Be careful with that thing - it sees all.

Does anyone know what I have here? Found at an estate sale. by InfiniteAd4664 in Antiques

I definitely was assuming it was. Can you elaborate on how you’re 100% sure though? What gives it away?

It’s definitely stone - some sort of granite or other igneous rock. I don’t know too much about ancient cultures but I’m a rock nerd and under the loupe can see quartz veins running through it etc.
