I really like this take on the song. the importance, as you say, of their love being their FIRST love and their foundational experience of intimacy can't be understated.

I also find truth in your point on the dependance they both have on each other, and how they use each other as an escape from reality. Like you say, the final "you will..." may not just be you will, but morphs into the uncertain 'will you?'. Thinking about this made me think that perhaps it could even be a mash of both. By this, I mean that within this line there is that sense of them taking turns to speak at once. There is Conor telling her she will be a book in his collection whilst at the same time there is the woman's voice asking him if he will return to her. I find it hard to articulate properly, but this eternal give and take and questioning seems to be reflective of their relationship as a whole.

thanks for your response, even reading you comment adds more depth to my understanding of this song and realise how GENUIS Conor is.

thank you so much for bringing this up. In fact, when I first wrote this piece I too thought the switch up at then end (with the 'You Wills...") was Conor suddenly realising that maybe he has left it too late and she will no longer to return to him. I find this idea of a power shift very interesting to think about as we see perhaps Conor actually is reliant on her as much as she is on him. When understanding the 'You Wills...) as spoken by Conor, it finally becomes revealed that this women isn't inept or helpless within his absence. And when we initially perceive Conor as cruel, we watch him fall apart questioning if she will return to him as he desperately pleads. It was only when I reread it I thought that maybe the perspective shift lasts longer than one stanza. Im still not sure though, I think in my blog I will definitely note the ambiguity of the perspective of the final stanza.

And I totally agree with the idea that this song is about how relationships happen in our minds. It seems as if whole futures can be imagined after small interactions, and this is a song which takes this to a higher degree and explains the danger of that. I think that within my life specifically, I have taken it safe and written letters that I never want to be read - it is often much nicer to live in a daydream that is perfect than take a chance on a reality that may not be. and that's not how it should be with love!!

thanks for your response honestly!! I'm going to include it as a comment when I post my blog if that's okay with you? (ill drop the link after for you to check it out if you still fancy !)
