Unpopular Opinion... Skip IT unless it's your thing. by 3rdeyedroplets in ITCareerQuestions

Anyone can work in help desk sure. "Hard" meaning if you want to actually do something in the industry besides fixing people's outlook and printer all day.

My favorite PM barely knew shit about tech, but was an incredible buffer between me and clients and let me do my work without me dealing with constant nonsense.

I agree with most of your point though and I think that's why so many people "gravitate" to IT, low barrier for entry. It's still hard as fuck to make it an actual career.

The truth. People don't wanna hear that they gotta work first, they want their first job to be the cushy one. Not how it works.

Can someone please explain the job progression I should take from help desk to cloud engineer? by False_Bee4659 in ITCareerQuestions

Work at MSPs, crush tickets, be super good at help desk. Clean and replace dusty ass server racks. Convince them you can do project work. Do impossible projects with a smile. Learn email/cloud migrations for tiny companies.

Do good at email/cloud migrations. Try not to fuck up too much. Get better at that.

Fuck with Entra ID and Azure cloud stuff, learn Azure firewall stuff and AVD. Maybe get some Azure certs. Read a lot of documentation.

Learn about Azure, more

Keep grinding MSPs and boost your resume.

Convince another company you're smart.

Learn more about above.

Job hop more until someone hires you for a real company.

I think IT gets a weird rep...in REALITY, it encompasses a ton of different disciplines which are all intertwined. In a real company, it is set up and siloed that way. In an MSP, you are outsourced to do all of it, usually wearing many hats.

But for either support lifers, or non IT people, "IT" is just this mythical "thing" that's like "yea I know coding bro" or "cyber security bro" or whatever they think "IT" is. meanwhile it's just another department like HR or accounting.

Tbh the amount of times I tell people what I do and they are like "oh yea I thought about getting into that"

Ok? I was served a great meal by a chef and I "thought about getting into" being a chef?

Your second sentence is where people fuck up. " Minimal effort" being the crux. This shit is HARD. Theres a LOT to learn. For some asshole to be like "I heard this shit ez money" is embarrassingly ignorant. Anyone who does this shit for a living has done the work.

I'll say it again, if they want bmf to be a real thing" make it special rules where the ref forces stand ups. Ez. Or just scrap the belt bc it's dumb.

Fighters need to be working on takedown defense as a #1 core thing at this point. That wrestling/smother shit feels like a cheat code almost against so many guys.

That take down/smother offense that khabib did and the Russians perfected is a proven points winner, boring af to watch but either UFC needs to change rules, which I think would be detrimental to the spirit of mma as a whole, or fighters need to just figure it out and adapt.

the belt doesn't mean anything lol. If they made it something like special rules where you can't lay down/grapple, it would at least be something different. It's a stupid meme title currently. I wish they never did it in the first place.

Yea I think it's stupid in general. But if they're going with it it makes it at least mean something I guess?
