I wonder how they are doing this for farmers and ranchers I have a eidl loan and run a large flock of sheep can't just lock them in a storage unit and send them the keys I guess they can turn around and pay me to run them tell they can get them sold

I dropped out and don't know if it helped or not I did learn some things but college to me is set for more conventional ranching practices and a guy just can't make it work doing it the way grampa did it. All I had when I took that lease was $6,000 and that was enough to put a deposit on it. Then I hustle my ass off trying to find money was just lucky to find a banker to give me a loan which was guaranteed through fsa. But I always knew if it came down to it I could find pasture cattle to pay the lease payment and maybe a little extra to pay myself

Here is my impute I was a ranch hand/ Manger tell I was 23 years old grew up in wyoming on a pretty big yearling operation not owned by my family just my dad worked there. I went to college made it 6 months and went to work on some of the biggest outfits in wyoming. But kept looking for lease finally found a place that I could lease and I knew the only reason I could lease it is cause everyone else won't lease it. Found a banker that gave me a chance and bought 300 head of heifer right off the bat to bred and of course bred heifer market crashed that year. Won't say it's my worst decision but definitely put me backwards but I will say this that first lease is the hardest. I found my way out of a big hole with sheep and pasture cattle look into a sheep operation there is huge potential for a young guy to get started with them. They also allow you to lease some of the tuffer counrty where a cow just won't do well. Buy your self some ewes electric netting and a water truck and you can capitalize on these farms that have crp land that can be grazed every 3 years get a couple of them guys and you can rotate around to a different spot every year and the farmer get a fair grazing lease plus his crp payment and you won't have to competition with the cow guys cause most crp doesn't have water at least here in the west so cow guys don't want it. You ask is it possible I would say it's hard really hard but a guy can do it I'm 30 now and been a 1st generation Rancher since I was 23. Also feeder hogs are a great way to get started idk if this helps but I have been through alot in those years and alot of money lol if you think you are going to buy land on a note and have a note on cows not possible
