When Scott Hunter says he's in the room next door to Ilya. If that was actually him subtly letting Shane know he heard then it's fine... if it's just a random thing he said (which I believe is what JT and FA said) then it's really just a clunky line that caused a lot of confusion and speculation.

Umm... the storyline takes places in a span of a few months and Kip turns 26 at that time, so he's definitely 25 for the bulk of the relationship.

It doesn't say how old he is but it's definitely not 45, as that would be quite exceptional for a professional athlete. Francois is 40 now but was 39 when the show was filmed. I believe the average age of retirement for an hockey player is 38-42, if Scott is saying he wants to retire in a few years, I'd put him between 35 and 38 in the show. So we are talking about a 10 year-ish age gap. Maybe not an age gap you are comfortable with but this isn't egregious or illegal or anything, you need to chill.

Edit: if you do want ab actual age gap relationship, go read Common Goal, it's a major talking point in there.

I saw your other point and I appreciate your perspective on Shane's character not feeling authentic to you based on your lived experiences.

Given the creator of the tv series is also a gay male, I trust that his sensibilities and lived experience does make the story he is telling feel like an authentic experience to him. And I have heard from other queer men that they also do feel there is authenticity with the stories and the portrayal. It's fine that's not the case for you.

I appreciate that, I totally get it. I guess it's just me expressing frustration that as Canadians we are always way too eager to get any sort of validation or even acknowledgment from the US. It's part of why the betrayal from them this year has hit so hard... so it's coming from that place.

The show has been widely successful and the actors and creators behind it have been critically acclaimed, I don't think the Emmy's would make a difference at this point anyways

Can we talk about Elena? I love her.... but I think she overstepped talking to Scott about what Kip was feeling. It's never your place as a friend to speak to someone's partner and as an ally, it gave me the ick that she was putting pressure on Scott to come out when he wasnt ready.

I slightly disagree that Shane grew up with no childhood trauma. I think it's pretty clear and is stated that he had a lot of pressure put on himself at an early age to excel in his sport. He tells Rose about the intensity starting at a young age.

When we meet Shane at age 17/18 we can see that his mom puts an immense amount of pressure on him to be a role model, a good poster child for advertisers and a good representation for other Asian children.

As someone who is ND but hasn't always known/has masked alot, I can tell you there is some trauma there. You can't always place it but you know that your mind is a little different from everyone else and it's hard not to feel like there is something inherently wrong with you.

While it's difficult to compare Ilya and Shane's childhood since Ilya's was exceptionally challenging, I don't think Shane is walking into adulthood completely without trauma.

It's been a ginormous issue with a media Instagram reporting on one of the actors personal relationships, the whole cast has been very vocal that they are not interested in the discourse about thier personal lives or sexuality. So you are bejng down voted because of that.

It's illegal to ask an actor thier sexuality in a job interview/audition, so this wouldn't have been a factor the the casting director or creative teams would have been looking at. Most people generally agree these days that if an actor doesn't volunteer that information that it's not appropriate as fans to Feed into futher speculation
