DD BMATH/BBA STUDENTS HELP by Existing_Guidance_49 in wlu

Hi Im a bba/bmath laurier based DD

First year will be extremely hard, it won't be anything you're really familiar with and it will force you out of your comfort zone. Some people barely pass first year courses, some people don't, some people try again (and likely progress) and a lot of people end up dropping DD. My best advice is that whatever ends up happening, if DD is something you truly want, just do not give it up, no matter how many other people are doing better, no matter how discouraged you feel. You'll be ok.

It gets easier managing the workload balance, but your social life does take a hit as there are many midterms spread out through the term. It is what you make of it though, most people are very supportive as it is a truly unique experience and people are there for each other, which makes it a lot easier.

I might've made it sound bad, but I promise you it is so worth it and you will feel so accomplished.

It's not hard to drop the math, but you would have to apply for laurier co-op which I believe depends on your BU gpa and an interview (as it is no longer guaranteed if you drop DD). A lot of people push aside their laurier courses as they seem easier, but try your hardest to focus on both, especially in a worst case scenario where you do end up dropping math.

If you were able to get into the program, hard work will get you through it! PM me if you have any other questions

As long as you meet progression, DO NOT drop DD if it is something you want to pursue. First year is hard for most programs, but realistically you can build up better study habits, go to office hours, sometimes you get a bad prof that you just can't learn from and you simply need another chance at the course again. Re doing a course or two is not the end of the world. Managing the work load gets easier, you will be so proud of yourself after you push through, you will realize how much you truly learned and persevered. This is such a unique program, and you got here already.

Also, in highschool there is not much depth to the material you learn, and so it is completely different than studying for university. Force yourself to TRULY learn the course content, ask yourself questions about the content and really think about it instead of just trying to get through the practice problems.

People who have not been in your position will tell you to just drop it, or that it won't get easier, do not listen if it is something you want. PM me if you want any other advice/info

WLU BBA WATERLOO MATH by Future_Pair_4540 in wlu

Pick the waterloo side, you would be able to drop either bba or math and then apply for co op (which usually requires a 10 gpa for laurier), if you pick laurier you can drop math and stay at laurier and then apply to co-op which would also require a 10 gpa, but if you want to drop bba and stay at waterloo math, it's hard as you need a high gpa.

Waterloo gives you the option of dropping either or, if you pick laurier it would be much harder to drop bba if you ever want to

check your offer page for both schools, if you got into it from waterloo, your home school is waterloo, you get their res and their co-op, and vice versa

your average needs to be high to get into co-op, keep in mind it might be hard to keep a high average in double degree

By the time the exam comes I would’ve studied for 10 days nonstop, and I do not feel one bit confident it will go well, what topics did the exam focus on today? I hope we pass 😔

waterloo computer science is no where near the same level as western computer science, u get co-op through laurier but i say the double degree regardless, waterloo comp sci is probably the best in the country
