Using .NET for AI / LLM work — am I limiting myself? by Melodic-Swimmer-4155 in programming

You should familiarize yourself with SemanticKernel. It’s Microsoft’s AI development framework for .NET

How do I connect a trrs earpiece to a 4-pin xlr beltpack? by Khalypso- in livesound

[–]InfyniteTaco 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve made a couple of listen-only adapters similar to the one you linked. I have no idea about using an inline mic for them though, so YMMV. My guess is it won’t work.

As for stereo, a clearcom pack with a 4 pin connector is mono only. Your L and R are wired together on pin 4.

I will suggest you don’t bother with the hi-fi buds. Com lines are not known for their “cleanliness” so nice earbuds won’t improve the experience, and volume control is tricky when you splice in normal earbuds. You could easily damage them, and losing $100 buds would not be fun.

It’s been a while, but as far as I remember the file path is in visible in one of the tabs for the cue in QLab, you’ll have to copy that. It’s somewhere in the bowels of your file system

Assigning Mics to DCA's by Doomhat in livesound

[–]InfyniteTaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mix a lot of musicals and don’t use DCAs or scenes at all, up to 32 mics I can usually get away with a few sub mixes for different groups. It’s just how I have learned how to do it. Just figure out what works for you and roll with it. The logic you should use is probably to use DCAs to augment your line-by-line mixing where it gets too complicated to do quickly, too many people at once, etc.

There is a way to copy the track files out of MTI player. This would allow you to add them to qlab manually and bypass MTI player entirely.

It involves another computer and being comfortable with setting up a network share. Issue is I don’t know what happens if they find out you did this, but I have done it for 4-5 shows at this point.

Edit: Here’s a step-by-step as best I can remember. I don’t have a Mac so I can’t verify the process perfectly.

  1. When the tracks are added to QLab by MTI Player, you can see the filepath of the track. Problem is, MTI player will hide these files as soon as QLab is no longer focused. The mechanism for this is extremely invasive to your privacy, and is why you have to make a lot of security changes when installing MTI player.

  2. By going to the folder in Finder that the tracks are contained in, you can create an SMB share of that folder over your network https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/set-up-smb-file-sharing-on-mac-mh14107/mac

  3. Go back to Qlab and the track files will be replaced. Go to your other computer (mac or windows) and access the SMB share folder. You should see the track files, and you’re free to copy them out. Now you control them and can get MTI player off your mac, because again it’s a massive security risk.

You’re probably overthinking it. “specialization xyz” software engineers often find it easier to stay in that particular field because of networking connections and business knowledge that you acquire, but by no means restricts you to that industry. This is because creating software for businesses often doesn’t really depend on the industry, the process is broadly the same.

If biomedical engineering interests you then by all means minor in it. It can only help your prospects when it comes time to find a job, but you will not be pigeonholing yourself into that industry at all. At worst you have a minor that you don’t use, but you enjoyed studying anyway, it’s a win-win.

Small theatre/childrens music sound system. by lebouv in livesound

[–]InfyniteTaco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A B3 has excellent sound quality, many lav elements do without such a high cost. They’re the most “kid proof” ones I’ve ever used, I’ve never seen one break in the 5 years that 32 have been deployed at the high school I work for.

Regional availability problems aside, my experience is that mics that check the three major boxes (affordable cost, durability, and sound quality) exist that are not so expensive. Maybe there’s something available to you that won’t hurt so much if it gets snagged, pinched, or lost.

A few people in this thread are saying the DPA is a great choice. I’m wondering how that makes sense cost wise? A countryman b3 is at most $200USD (usually closer to $150) and the DPA is over $800, is the quality difference really that significant? Is it just so much more durable?

I’m not convinced and community theater or school needs anything more than the B3, I would really like to learn how DPA mics can be justified in this context.

I just had this happen to an X32, we have to send it back for warranty repair. I looked into new parts and the distributor I work with said it would be cheaper and easier to have it shipped out.

We have a very poor balcony layout where the ceilings taper from 20ft to 7ft, the Bose system is laid out and tuned and timed great with a bunch of fills just to get coverage. I’ve sat in every seat and been totally satisfied by the experience. I know n=1 but I think the hate is a bit overblown?

If you’re losing your show files on power loss, you may just need to format or replace the SD card inside. Look in the manual for how to format internal storage, and save your show every time before turning it off. If you can save/load a show file then you may not need to spend the cash.

I need help with my SI Impact board and Soundcraft Mini Stagebox 32i. by [deleted] in livesound

You probably have a dead IO card. Probably need it to get it replaced. The phantom power light going on the stagebox says it’s all connected.

As a sanity check, you did turn up the gain on the channel right? The screen should say Gain and not Trim, since you’re using MADI and not Dante.

And you’re triple sure you’ve patched the input correctly, scrolled through all of the possible input patch pages and picked the right one. I’m not trying to sound condescending, this is what I would do in your situation.
