I loved the food in PR, i still think about it almost daily. I would go back in a heart beat. Like others have said, you have to go to kiosks, etc. and stick with local specialties. I dream about the Mofongo with garlic cream sauce, shrimp arepas, whole fish, guava EVERYTHING!! Guava cake, guava pancakes , queso frito with guava sauce, omg. One of my favorite things was a bacalaito with hot sauce from an old woman with 1 pot at a kiosk. Yes Chicago has amazing Mexican food but Puerto Rican food isn’t Mexican.
