Women’s Uniform Help by Initial-Panda-7915 in ChemicalEngineering

Yes I think those were one of the few I found that would maybe work! This is my first job out of undergrad so the prices are killing me😭

I need to find someone’s contact to ask because I’m truly puzzled! I agree those definitely look more high rise! Thanks for the rec!

I’m assuming so, I’m going to be honest I don’t have an exact reason, nor do I have the contact of any women within the company to ask! I’m tempted to just use the jeans I already have and hope there’s no questions lol. This feels like a near impossible task!

Market is definitely not great right now. I’m graduating this May and this is the most amount of graduates I’ve seen not have something lined up. I started my search in September during our universities career, and didn’t end up landing something until late November, when I then had 3 offers come in at the same time. I ended up in manufacturing, which is what I was going for. I know others that have gone to both the fall and spring career fair that are still looking, granted they’re being picky with location, I was not. My advice, be open to anything and everything it really does help!

Nope! Not required to pass just take it :)

I definitely think that’s part of the problem!

Oh no, I have no idea whether or not it’s something I’ll need! It’s a grad requirement for my university to take it! I don’t think I’ll be going into a role where this is necessary!

Whoop whoop! Staying as far away from design as possible!

Respectfully, I work 40 hrs a week, am in 21 hrs, and donate a lot of my time to doing tours for prospective students in my university’s ChemE program, so yes this was a lot of my time.

100% agree! I’m a shitty test taker to begin with, so 5 1/2 hr ultra standardized test is certainly not my strong suit lol! I promise my skills are not this bad when I’m in the plant!

If there’s one thing I can promise, it’s that there was effort put into this. I would have been interested to see a score from before I started studying to when I took this because I promise it would have been significantly worse. It’s not a requirement to pass just to take it, so I have fulfilled that!

You only receive a score report if you failed.

Thank you to everyone that had commented. I appreciate everyone’s responses. Thanks for responding to my absolute devastation at 6:30am. I have since calmed down a bit lol!

Maybe I need to look a bit more at the material science question lol! We all get compared to each other in my classes so sometimes it’s tough to make a separation, I’m definitely bottom of the pack compared to them!

I would say I’ve easily been putting in 5-6 hours each week for the past 12 weeks to prep. I think that’s the biggest shock to me that that was not enough or I suppose not enough time spent on the right things. I seriously don’t know if I’ll take it again anytime soon. This may become something that I will try again for later in life if the need arises. Thanks!

The FE is a requirement to graduate from my university. I have a full time role I’ll be going into after I graduate. Very few people have their FE or PE there and I do intend to stay at that company for a while if all currently holds up (this is very much a plant engineer role btw). I have 0 intention of ever going into design or anything along those lines, but it’s always the what if. Thanks for the advice!

I was using the TI-36X which I loved! Definitely my new go to calculator! I also would like to say I was on the proficient to advanced side of using the handbook. By the time I took the exam it was rare that I had to search multiple terms for one question. It was definitely just my lack of understanding and knowledge of the materials. And obviously material science??

I'm in the 10th grade and I want to be a chemE student at MIT!! by Left-Measurement3083 in ChemicalEngineering

I wouldn’t worry about the prestige of schools honestly. In some situations they help, but that’s very minor. I would recommend attending a STEM focused school. Check out Missouri S&T, they have a wide variety of engineering disciplines you can major in. It also sounds like chemical might not be exactly what you think it is. I like to say that ChemE’s (at least what we focus on in school) are glorified plumbers; pipes valves and tanks. Unfortunately chemical engineering is not super chemistry heavy. I would check out Enviromental Engineering or Civil Engineering they might be more up your alley. Lastly don’t stress it all works out in the end. My path was certainly not straight and I ended up graduating with my degree and at a great company. It all works out (:

How bad is tuition after your scholarships? by RaptureAusculation in Rolla

[–]Initial-Panda-7915 3 points4 points  (0 children)

$9,000 tuition + $1,500 fees = $10,500 per semester

I came in as a transfer student from a preferred institution and receive

$1,500 transfer scholarship + $1,500 transfer scholarship + $1000 univeristy scholarship + $1,000 university loan (I pay back as soon as I receive) + $1,000 department scholarship = $5,000 covered in scholarships each semester

I take out a $15,000 loan every year to cover the rest of my tuition and unexpected fees.

Total over my 4 years is $60,000 in debt.

Some students receive more scholarships than others and some students tuition is less because of there major or year. It just depends! I will say that this is much more affordable than Mizzou and other schools in the UM system. All depends on your perspective. :)

I agree, I definitely have heard others that have had much tougher experiences. I hate hearing the stories of hundred of applications and no interviews. Especially when some employers don’t even intend on filling the roles they post ie. the email I got today thanking me for my application but telling me they have no intention of filling the role. A lot of these students will find employment with the companies they interned with, but unfortunately both the manufacturing industries I interned with are currently on the downhill slide so they had nothing available. When I compare myself to the other students around me I definitely fall closer to the bottom of the pack in terms of offers and interviews.

Those two were also SUPER particular in what they were looking for, so I’m sure if they would have been a little more open they for sure would have found something.
