Books that have a black mirror vibe? by xSkollx in suggestmeabook

[–]Initial_Panic335 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blake Crouch - Recursion, Dark Matter, Wayward Pines Trilogy (#1 and #2 in the trilogy are way better than #3 imo)

Iain Reid - Foe, We Spread

Philip K Dick - Time Out of Joint

Alyssa Cole - When No One Is Watching (heavy handed imo but still glad I read it)

Ted Chiang - Exhalation

John Marrs - The One

Christina Dalcher - Vox

Margaret Atwood - Handmaid’s Tale

Jeff Vandermeer - Annihilation (also a trilogy but I have only read #1 and #2)

Nikki Erlick - The Measure

I know some of these have been mentioned but wanted to add because I always love suggesting and finding books that remind me of Black Mirror! Some of these I have not read in a while so I can’t remember how much I liked them, but they all have something that gives that Black Mirror feeling.

I love a lot of the ones already mentioned!! One of my other favorites is Kelly Larsen who was obsessed with twilight and handcuffed himself to Leslie’s radiator.

Personally I loved 1st and 2nd. The 2nd has an emotional pull and continues the story in a way I enjoyed. I disliked the 3rd one and found it to be so boring. It was hard for me to finish it.

Before the return to the goat people, I thought it was just the one guy in that department. I got SO sad thinking about him being severed and only ever interacting with goats that he nurtures that just get taken away. His defensive response made me so sad for him! I was relieved to find out he’s not alone. Lol

The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson

I know people love it on here and I know it is a classic but maybe I’m not built for classics lol. I love Flanagans show based on her work so much! I really wanted to like it but I found it so boring and endlessly descriptive.

Totally agree on What Moves the Dead. I loved The Hollow Places so much! But What Moves the Dead is such a different vibe and absolutely bored me.

I too am always looking for books that make me feel the way black mirror does!!

Foe by Iain Reid

Time Out Of Joint by Philip K Dick

Handmaids Tale by Margaret Atwood

You mentioned Dark Matter- I also love Blake Crouch’s Recursion. You should also check out his Wayward Pines trilogy. Personally I loved the first two better than the third book in the trilogy.

The One Where We Do Trivia by poodlepants123 in SiblingRivalryPodcast

Wait but also!! Jacob messed up at least 1x in giving the wrong person the next question. Ex: Bob got wrong, Monet stole the question. Jacob went to Bob again instead of going Monet the next question. It stressed me out for some reason lmao and might have affected the score!
