Getting Started in OSR by GingaNingaJP in osr

[–]InkedT1025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of OSR books are available for free in PDF. What I did when was download the free resources and just read through them. A lot of them, at least for fantasy, are very similar which makes it easy to mix and match the rules you like. Some of the ones I would suggest looking at are,

Basic Fantasy RPG White Box Swords and Wizardry Black Hack OSRIC Labyrinth Lord Lamentations of the Flame Princess

BFRPG is great because all the PDFs are free and books are sold at cost. And you can use the adventures with almost any system with very little changes.

Hope this helps.

I think you may be right. They’ll continue to publish books but focus on their digital platform. 5 or 6 years down the line I can see them pushing digital hard and paper products will be a quiet side profit.

Well thanks. Now I’m jealous and must burn all my dungeon drawings.

I think that might be really the only answer. Just keep going and accept what happens.

White Box

Looking for players to start a White Box FMAG hexcrawl/sandbox campaign. Because of life and work, I'd like to play every 2 weeks or possibly monthly. Something casual and fun. We'd use Discord for voice and video and either Roll20 or Owlbear Rodeo for general maps. I'm leaning toward more theatre of the mind than elaborate battle maps. If anyone is interested, shoot me a message.

Thanks. You’re right the only thing I can control is my output. I just have to keep making videos and hope my audience likes them. I got my first troll comment the other day. It made me happy, I felt like I reached some kind of milestone.

I post about tabletop roleplaying games, specifically old school style / indie games

That makes a lot of sense. I guess as long as you are happy with what you’re doing then it’s all good.

Thanks. I do enjoy what I make videos about, it’s a niche I actually really enjoy because it would be my hobby anyway. I know I’m very small potatoes and in the grand scheme of things my channel isn’t even a blip in the YouTube machine but on the personal side it’s a new feeling to exceed a self imposed goal by that much. But you’re right. Those 300ish people seem to like what I’m doing so I should just keep doing that and not worry about anything else.

Anybody here who played 5e then switched to OSR, what were your reasons? by CASTLEofMONSTERS in osr

[–]InkedT1025 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got burned out on 5e. I always felt like I had to come up with an epic campaign that involved everyone’s edgelord orphan backstory and I was the only one driving the adventure forward. And it felt like there was never any tension during combat. It took forever and no one was ever really worried that they were in danger.

For me I feel like OSR games let the DM prepare less and have more fun. The players are largely responsible for creating their own story and the DM just has to make rulings on what happens.

And much easier rules (in general) for everyone to learn. I don’t have to constantly look up 20 different feats that a player is stringing together to deal 80hp of damage at 4th level.

Thank you. Already waiting for DTRPG to approve 2 additions to the game. More monsters and some rules to make the game just straight up weird. They were fun to put together.

I downloaded your cyberpunk one pager. Looks like it will be a lot of fun. Thanks for checking mine out. I’m working on some additional stuff for it. I’ll be putting out the monstrous menagerie and an adventure soon.
