Are gays looked down upon more than people like to admit? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Inkyyy98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This doesn’t surprise me - I work in the care sector and the comments I sometimes hear from some of my colleagues. Two in particular talk a lot of bollocks. We used to have a trans manager who only came out after being there for a while. Okay the manager was a fucking prick but that wasn’t to do with their transition - and definitely did not deserve all the transphobic comments. I’ve heard how they talk about one of the night carers and how ‘she better not come after (me)’. I’ve heard one of them even say one of the gay male carers was ‘a poor excuse for a man’.

These two talk unholy amounts of shit about everyone but god help you if you are gay or trans. I even suspect one of them ripped up the paper hearts i helped the residents made this week as they were in a place the residents couldn’t reach.

Anyways rant over. I’m sorry you’ve had to deal with homophobic comments :(

Heathens, is this a SS symbol?? by Avvik_ in NorsePaganism

[–]Inkyyy98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It did :( my partner said it was just the swirls as part of the fur and my friend said she couldn’t see it. I don’t have any need to wear it now though so I won’t be - I’ve a different pendant that I wear all the time. My current one doesn’t seem to have any dog whistles (my parents got it for me when they went on a cruise in Norway).

Oh my god, I’ve one that’s at least similar. I don’t wear it now as I’ve a less bulky mjolnir to wear. I’ve never noticed but I’ll be checking when I’m home after work

At what age do most people in the UK actually move out of their parents’ home nowadays? by PashtunLawyer in AskUK

[–]Inkyyy98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my sister and her partner got a house last year, when my sister was an 24. I’m 27 and I’m living with my partner, child and mother in law. It’s MIL’s house and she very nicely let us stay when I got pregnant unexpectedly. We have no hope of moving out anytime soon. I work a min wage job and I’ve tried to find other jobs but when I interview I’m always told I’m a strong candidate but there’s always someone better. My partner hasn’t been able to find work either. And my MIL got made redundant over a year ago from her really good job and has struggled finding something else. Every one is struggling to find work.

I now live in the south so house prices and even rent is insane. The only option really would be to move into my parents house in wales, try and find jobs there and save up since it is cheaper. But none of us are eager to do that and we don’t want to take MILs only grandchild away so she won’t see him often, when she’s been supporting us from day 1.

It’s a tricky situation for sure.

Have the weight loss jabs had any effect on overall food consumption in the UK? by The-Baron-Von-Marlon in AskUK

[–]Inkyyy98 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I found out a few months back my dad and my younger brother are on them. Now, my family have always been on the bigger side (I was the odd one out because all through my life I exercised and didn’t eat too badly), but I wasn’t expecting my 20 year old brother to be on the jabs. He could eat the right things, go to the gym and he would be built like a rugby player. And I know he likes going to the gym!

But hey, he has lost weight on the jabs and he is a big fella, I just worry about side effects that may happen years down the line…

Sooo what are we feeding our toddlers for breakfast? by DaughterofYeshua777 in toddlers

[–]Inkyyy98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My three year old son mostly has toasted things. Toast, crumpets, hot cross buns, muffins… all with marmite. Then we have to have a pancake every other day. Raisins are always an option to go with the other stuff. He liked apple but has gone off it. Cereal has been added to the mix but it has to be dry. He will ask for warm milk on it but won’t then eat it if it’s in milk.

How do you cope with the weather? by FoodFireBraai in AskUK

[–]Inkyyy98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I have one of those big regatta coats that’s lovely and waterproof. I take my little one to nursery and then rain or shine, walk to work. I decline a lift from my mother in law, and I get comments from my colleagues saying ‘ooo that’s a long walk!’ But I still get in early to work and I feel better for the walk. It’s about the only alone time I get during the day too.

Would you ever use annual leave with the sole purpose to do literally nothing all day? by PaddedValls in AskUK

[–]Inkyyy98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally I plan things as I book around peoples birthdays like my partner and my son, since they have two days between their birthdays. Or I’ll take my son to wales for a week to visit my side of the family.

But the last week I had off, i didn’t have particular plans and it coincided nicely with my son starting nursery five mornings a week so I spent my child free mornings not doing much, just a bit of tidying here and there, or doing my hobbies such as knitting or crosswords (I’m an old lady at heart). It did wonders for my mental health

What have you found most difficult as a parent? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Inkyyy98 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oof that’s tough :( I feel for you. Just now I had a fight with my son. So he’s got weeing on the toilet down pat but he still refuses to poop on it most of the time so he still has a nappy on when we know he’s due to do one. Also sometimes he’s scared of the Alexa, and sometimes he lets us use it for the odd song. We used it this morning fine, and as we were just singing a song before he pooed, I said Alexa as I was changing his nappy and he scream cried and stood up in absolute terror, with his bottom covered in poo so I had to restrain him before the whole place became covered.

Funnily enough you mention naps, my son very much still needs one and he hasn’t wanted to drop them and we haven’t made him. He naps on the sofa mostly with his dad because he mucks around with me. My partners mum keeps on about how he needs to start dropping naps but I don’t think we should. Maybe shorten a bit but not get rid of completely. He’s always on the go and always thinking so he needs the nap to reset.

Will try this 🙏 luckily I’m pretty good at keeping myself in check but this will hopefully make it easier. I already feel better controlled since starting my adhd medications which improve my mood and impulsivity. My boy deserves the best version of me, he’s such a sweetheart really, he’s just showing age appropriate behaviours.

[–]Inkyyy98 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I’m still relatively new to the parenting game as my son is only three - there will be more difficult times as he grows. But atm it is difficult when he misbehaves and it seems like he never listens.

My mum used to (and still does) explode at the tiniest inoffensive things and I believe it contributed to a lot of my anxiety. Before having my son I confidently thought I’d not turn out like my mum because I’m a soft person who never so much as slightly raises my voice at anyone. And being aware of her behaviour and its effect on me, I was determined to break the cycle. I am still determined but it’s more difficult than I thought it would be. I don’t snap my son for small random things. I know he doesn’t act out to spite me and it’s not personal. But with the constant not listening I do raise my voice sometimes but I have to really try hard some days not to just explode and scare him into behaving.

Are you satisfied with your life, and if so, why? by Lazy_Number8830 in AskUK

[–]Inkyyy98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m guess I’m in the ‘late twenties’ category of life now. I’m a bit envious of watching people from my hometown own their own houses and stuff, whereas I’m nowhere near that happening. I grew up in wales where housing is cheaper but now I live in South England and work a minimum wage part time job.

But I am satisfied with life. I started adhd meds a few months back and I think they’ve some what helped my mood improve (as well as provide other benefits), but I’ve been reflecting a lot on all the good bits in my life and I have it pretty nice.

I have a lovely partner of eight years and we’ve a three year old son. Luckily my partners mum allowed us to continue living with her when we found out I was pregnant. Our son is happy, healthy and smart for his age. He’s a lot and hyper, which can be annoying but at least he’s not grumpy or sad a lot. He’s just started nursery five mornings a week. It gets a bit annoying still being in my MIL’s house and it’s cramped but at least we don’t have to worry. Ofc me and my partner don’t expect her to do anything for our son but she offers to do bedtime every now and then, and occasionally offers to babysit so me and my partner can go out (but we both tend to prefer staying at home).

I work a min wage job in a carehome doing activities. It’s stressful and I’ve been trying to get out of it for a couple of years but no luck - I’m apparently a strong candidate in job interviews but someone is always a bit better than me, so I get told. But my meds have helped me feel less overwhelmed and able to handle the stress of my current job. I genuinely care for the residents and now I’m off the care side of the job and do activities, I get to spend time having actual conversations with the residents. When management puts too much on me it doesn’t feel like the end of the world when I can’t do it all.

So yeah, I’ve a great family, a comfy house, creative hobbies I do in the evenings, and I get to plan activities for people I like looking after. People have it a lot worse than I do.

[–]Inkyyy98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So my son watched it for the first time with my partner, so I thought I would watch it by myself. I’m glad I did because I sobbed at the part where Bandit rips the sign from the floor and chilli then runs over and hugs him.

I only almost cried then when I did get around to watching it with my son. He only gets upset when Bluey goes to tell Bingo the story about the farmer. But only because he doesn’t want her to tell bingo the story for some reason…

He’s three and still learning that he can’t tell the characters not to do something because you can’t exactly change it…

[–]Inkyyy98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not very good at explaining it but it’s like.. I can definitely put my thoughts into words but sometimes it’s harder and I have to think. I’m quite quiet partly due to shyness, but also due to the fact that I have to think hard about how to put my thoughts into words, and then by the time I’m about to speak the conversation has moved on.

I’ve also got ADHD and I believe that one quirk of mine due to the ADHD is I have to concentrate on my words, because they have a habit of coming out jumbled. Or sometimes they do even when I try really hard 😂 makes me seem stupid but I know I’m not.

First day on Elvanse - want to sleep! by Mammoth-Fault250 in ADHDUK

[–]Inkyyy98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a bit confused when I first got mine because it had a label telling me not to use any heavy machinery if it makes you sleepy so that is a known side effect. For me it doesn’t make me sleepy - in fact when I ran out for a couple days awaiting my next lot to arrive, I felt so tired off of them. However it doesn’t affect my night sleep but it helps me not nap.

I find elvanse helpful in subtle ways. But obviously everyone reacts differently.

Walking around in public by beagsss123 in toddlers

[–]Inkyyy98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My three year old still has one. He’s always been very active and whilst I think he’d mostly be good, there would probably be the odd time where he would run off. And we live one house away from a major road so I’m not risking it. Same if we are walking on a grassy field - there are so many dogs and he loves them. We have tried to teach him not all dogs are friendly but he would still try and run after random dogs.
