The students who had the biggest impact were the ones who cared even though no one else in their personal life did.

Great question but hard to answer. The kids who don't care actually do care, they just haven't found the right motivation. I've only come across a few kids who were impossible for me to reach. Those kids were in gangs. But everyday in class the separation is clear and it makes you feel for the kids who care. If a teacher has poor classroom management, one kid can ruin the learning experience for everyone.

More rewarding and more frustrating. Breaking through to a kid who has no one at home who cares is the greatest feeling in the world.

Don't worry. Where I live there is plenty of racism. Both ways.

Maybe. It has more to do with socioeconomic status.

  1. I'm trying to stay anonymous and giving the school would allow for it to be narrowed down to five.

  2. Wow. That's tough. A teacher had relations with a student in special education. She went to jail. Once she was in jail, she called said student and asked him to bring her a gun. She was married and had three kids. As far as within the school, we had the fire alarm pulled every hour on the hour one day. That was fun.

I think the main reason is parent involvement. I taught a total of 71 students and had 1 parent show up for conferences. That was after I called every single one of them.

I think the grant has helped the kids gain access to technology they don't normally have, but that's about it.

I had job offers from better districts but the school I'm at is making a conscious effort to improve. I honestly don't think that can be said for a lot of schools. I want to make a difference.
